A gyilkosság kapcsán a utahi közbiztonsági minisztérium, a megyei seriffhivatal és az FBI közösen nyomoz.
A hatóságok szerint az elkövető egyszer lőtt, vélhetően az egyik épület tetejéről.
A lövöldözés után hatalmas volt a káosz, egymásnak ellentmondó információk terjedtek az interneten. Az FBI később megerősítette, hogy a gyilkosság után őrizetbe vettek két embert, akiket kihallgattak, de bizonyíték hiányában szabadon engedték.
Az FBI arra kérte az eseményen résztvevőket, hogy aki készített fényképeket vagy videókat, az ossza meg a hatóságokkal a felvételeket.
Legalább 84 embert – főként meleg férfiakat és transznemű nőket – tartóztattak le és vettek őrizetbe önkényesen Tunéziában, kizárólag vélt vagy valós szexuális irányultságuk vagy nemi identitásuk miatt – közölte az Amnesty International helyi jogvédő forrásokra hivatkozva a Humenonline.
„Az LMBTQ embereket célzó letartóztatások megugró száma riasztó visszaesést jelent az emberi jogok szempontjából Tunéziában. Senkit sem szabadna letartóztatással, büntetőeljárással vagy börtönbüntetéssel sújtani szexuális irányultsága vagy nemi identitása miatt. Ahelyett, hogy a nemi sztereotípiák és a mélyen gyökerező homofób attitűdök alapján zaklatják az embereket, a tunéziai hatóságoknak azonnal és feltétel nélkül szabadon kell engedniük mindenkit, akit tényleges vagy vélt szexuális irányultsága vagy nemi identitása miatt vettek őrizetbe, és olyan eljárásrendet kell bevezetniük, amelyek biztosítják az LMBTQ emberek jogainak védelmét” – mondta Diana Eltahawy, az Amnesty International közel-keleti és észak-afrikai regionális igazgatóhelyettese.
A szervezet négy olyan LMBTQ jogvédő aktivistával és három ügyvéddel is beszélt, akik letartóztatott személyeket képviselnek. Saif Ayadi queer aktivista attól tart, hogy a letartóztatottak tényleges száma magasabb, mint amennyit szervezete dokumentálni tudott. „A számaink a közösség tagjainak nyújtott közvetlen segítségen alapulnak, beleértve a jogi segítségnyújtást is; ez nem teljes körű. Becsléseink szerint a valós szám legalább háromszor magasabb, mert amikor néhány évvel ezelőtt hozzáférhettünk a büntetőeljárások hivatalos számaihoz, azt tapasztaltuk, hogy a dokumentációnk átlagosan csak az érintettek legfeljebb egyharmadát fedte le.”
Tunéziában a meleg férfiakat és a transznemű embereket gyakran sztereotípiák alapján, a viselkedés vagy külső megjelenés alapján tartóztatják le. A letartóztatottak ügyvédjeinek többsége arról számol be, hogy a rendőrök elkobozták és jogellenesen átkutatták az érintettek mobiltelefonjait.
A letartóztatási hullámot egy nagyszabású online kampány előzte meg tavaly szeptemberben. Kirekesztő homofób és transzfób gyűlöletbeszéd vette célba az LMBTQ aktivistákat és szervezeteket a közösségi médiában több száz oldalról, köztük a Kais Said elnököt támogató felületekről. A hagyományos médiában népszerű televíziós és rádiós műsorvezetők gyújtó hangvételű üzenetekben támadták az LMBTQ szervezeteket, azok feloszlatására és az aktivisták letartóztatására szólítottak fel.
Az azonos neműek közötti szexuális kapcsolat 3 évig terjedő börtönnel büntethető Tunéziában, ez pedig kiszolgáltatottá teszi az LMBTQ személyeket a rendőri erőszaknak és visszaéléseknek. A rendőrök gyakran kihasználják a letartóztatástól és büntetőeljárástól való félelmet, és zsarolásnak, időnként akár szexuális zaklatásnak teszik ki a célpontjaikat. Egyes esetekben a letartóztatottakat a biztonsági szervek csalják csapdába a közösségi médiában és a társkereső alkalmazásokban, vagy épp adathalászat áldozatai lesznek. Néhányan arról számoltak be, hogy a biztonsági erők tagjai a közösségi médiában és randiappokon melegnek adták ki magukat, hogy megzsarolják áldozataikat, azzal fenyegetve őket, hogy lebuktatják vagy letartóztatják őket, többek között „online prostitúcióra való felhívásért”. Az ügyvédek arról is beszámoltak, hogy 2024-ben megszaporodtak az LMBTQ emberek otthonaiban hatósági végzés nélkül végrehajtott rendőrségi razziák száma.
A letartóztatások nemcsak LMBTQ személyeket érinthetnek, de azokat is, akik nem tartják be a nemi normákat, illetve a nemi megjelenésük vagy kifejezésük nem felel meg a nemi normáknak – mondja Diana Eltahawy.
Októberben az igazságügyi minisztérium közleményt adott ki, amelyben elítélte a közösségi médiaplatformok, például a TikTok és az Instagram növekvő használatát „a közerkölcsökkel ellentétes tartalmak” terjesztése miatt, és felszólította az ügyészeket, hogy „tegyék meg a szükséges bírósági intézkedéseket és indítsanak nyomozást bárki ellen, aki olyan tartalmú adatokat, képeket és videoklipeket készít, jelenít meg vagy tesz közzé, amelyek aláássák az erkölcsi értékeket”. Néhány nappal a nyilatkozat után már öt közösségi médiás tartalomkészítőt tartóztattak le többek között „közszeméremsértés és jó erkölcsbe ütköző tartalom terjesztése” miatt. Őket először négy és fél évig terjedő börtönbüntetésre ítélték, fellebbezésük után négyen az ítéletük enyhítésével február elején szabadulhattak, egyikük azonban így is 2 év börtönbüntetést és pénzbírságot kapott.

18 halottja van eddig az amerikai Maine állambeli Lewistonban szerda este történt lövöldözésnek, amiben egy férfi egymás után két helyszínen is tüzet nyitott az emberekre – jelentette csütörtök délután tartott sajtótájékoztatóján Janet Mills kormányzó. Az áldozatok közül nyolcat azonosítottak, tíznél még folyik az eljárás.
A gyanúsított egy bowlingpályán és egy étteremben lőtt rá az emberekre, az előzetes vizsgálat szerint egy gépkarabélyt használt. A két helyszín pár perces autóútra, körülbelül négy mérföldre (6,5 km) van egymástól. A fegyveres a bowlingpályán hat férfit és egy nőt ölt meg, az étteremnél pedig hét férfit a létesítményben, egyet pedig előtte lőtt le.
15 sérültet szállítottak összesen a Central Maine Healthcare Centerbe, közülük hárman a kórházban belehaltak a lőtt sérülésekbe. Két sérültet az orvosok elláttak és hazaengedtek, kettőt pedig átszállítottak másik kórházakba. A nyolc jelenleg ott kezelt közül ötnek stabil, háromnak pedig kritikus az állapota – mondta a központ főorvosa.
Janet Mills mindenkit arra kért, hogy segítse a hatóságokat a menekülő tettes elfogásában. A rendőrség egyértelműen azonosította az elkövetőt, a 40 éves Robert Cardot, aki képzett lőfegyveroktató, tartalékos katona, a feltételezések szerint rendőrségi adóvevővel rendelkezik, és nyomon követi a hatóságok mozgását.
A hírek szerint a férfi mentális problémákkal küzdött, „hangokat hallott”, de cselekményének indítéka egyelőre nem világos. A gyanúsított tartózkodási helyét továbbra sem ismerik, a járművét megtalálták a Lewiston városával szomszédos Lisbonban.

Az alig 1700 lakosú Lardin-Saint-Lazare településen vasárnap délután a csendőrség elit alakulatának több mint háromszáz tagja és két helikopter kereste a felfegyverezett katonát – tájékoztatott a helyi csendőrség.
A gyanúsított harminc év körüli, elvált, három gyerek apja, 2011 és 2016 között szolgált a francia hadseregben.
Francine Bourra, a település polgármestere az AFP hírügynökségnek elmondta: a férfinál több fegyver is van, sportos, gyorsan mozog, nagyon makacs ember. A település körüli 4-5 kilométeres erdős körzetben van olyan hely, ahova nehéz bejutni.
A gyanúsított korábban börtönben ült családon belüli erőszak miatt, szabadulása óta elektromos nyomkövetőt visel.
A rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint a férfi éjfélkor jelent meg volt élettársa lakhelyén, ahol bántalmazta a nő jelenlegi párját. Ez utóbbinak sikerült elmenekülnie, de a volt katona üldözőbe vette, majd a település utcáján azt kiabálta, hogy meg akarja a csendőröket ölni, akiket időközben riasztottak a helyiek. A gyanúsított rájuk is lőtt, és két hatósági járművet súlyosan megrongált.
Rendőrségi források szerint a gyanúsított volt élettársa és a gyerekei jól vannak, a csendőrség biztonságos helyre kimenekítette őket.

Néhány hónappal ezelőtt a közép-franciaországi Puy-de-Dome megyében hasonló eset történt. 2020. december 23-ra virradó éjjel egy volt katona három csendőrt megölt és egy negyediket súlyosan megsebesített fegyverével. A hatóságokat a férfi volt élettársa riasztotta, miután a párja bántalmazta, és emiatt kimenekült a háza tetejére. A fegyveres férfi végül felgyújtotta a házat, majd elmenekült a helyszínről a gépkocsijával, amelyben másfél kilométerrel arrébb holtan találtak rá, kezében fegyverrel.
