A húszik korábban őrizetbe vették az ENSZ munkatársait, valamint az Egyesült Államok akkori szanaai nagykövetségével és segélyszervezetekkel kapcsolatban álló személyeket.

Azelőtt az ENSZ összesen 16 jemeni alkalmazottja volt húszik által fogva tartva.
A munkatársak megállapították, hogy hét másik személyt elfogtak, és leállították a munkájukat, amely élelmiszert, gyógyszert és egyéb segélyeket biztosít az elszegényedett nemzetnek.
Júniusban az ENSZ elismerte, hogy a húszik 11 jemeni alkalmazottat vettek őrizetbe tisztázatlan körülmények között, miközben a lázadók egyre inkább felléptek az ellenőrzésük alatt álló területeken.
Az ENSZ hozzátette, hogy „aktívan együttműködik a húszik magas rangú képviselőivel”, akik 2014 óta tartják kézben Jemen fővárosát.
Az Irán által támogatott lázadók 2015 óta állnak háborúban egy szaúdi vezetésű koalícióval, amely az ország száműzött kormánya érdekében harcol.

A Szaúd-Arábia déli részén található Dzsizanban a jemeni síita lázadók drónokkal és rakétákkal megtámadtak egy nagy olajlétesítményt – jelentette a húszik egyik katonai szóvivője hétfőn.
A húszik ellen harcoló, Szaúd-Arábia vezette arab koalíció korábban közölte, hogy megsemmisített négy rakétát és hat robbanó drónt, amelyeket a lázadók lőttek ki. Rijád nem számolt be arról, hogy találat ért-e bármilyen létesítményt.
Az Aramco szaúdi olajvállalat egy napi 400 ezer hordó termelőkapacitású üzemet működtet a Vörös-tenger partján fekvő Dzsizanban, amely a jemeni határtól 60 kilométerre található.
Jahja Szarea húszi katonai szóvivő elmondta, hogyszaúdi katonai létesítményeket és rakétavédelmi rendszereket vettek célba Hamisz Musaitban, illetve egyéb katonai célpontokat támadtak Abha, Dzsizan és Nadzsran területén. Szarea hozzátette, hogy a dzsizani ipari övezetben található olajlétesítményt is célba vették. Az összes említett település Szaúd-Arábia délnyugati részén található, közel a jemeni határhoz.
A húszik szócsövének számító al-Maszíra tévécsatorna szerint az arab koalíció több,a lázadók felügyelete alatt álló terület ellen hajtott végre légicsapást hétfőn.
A húszik fokozták támadásaikat azóta, hogy május végén lejárt a koronavírus-járvány miatt életbe léptetett tűzszünet. Június végén a lázadók rakétái elérték a szaúd-arábiai fővárost, Rijádot.
Jemenben 2014 augusztusa óta dúl polgárháború a kormányellenes síita húszik és a nemzetközileg elismert jemeni elnökhöz, a Rijádban tartózkodó Abed Rabbó Manszúr Hádihoz hű erők között. A lázadók ellen 2015 márciusában lépett hadba a kormánycsapatokat támogató arab koalíció Szaúd-Arábia vezetésével.
A jemeni polgárháborúban több mint százezren haltak meg, és milliók váltak földönfutóvá. Az országban a világ legsúlyosabb humanitárius válsága alakult ki.
