Az Ausztrál Nemzeti Egyetem (ANU) pénteken közölte, hogy együttműködik az olasz rendőrség „művészeti szakosztályával” néhány felbecsülhetetlen értékű műkincs visszaszolgáltatásán.
Az egyetem múzeumában felfedezett lopott műtárgyak között szerepel egy 2500 éves amfora, ami a görög bajnokot, Héraklészt ábrázolja a mitikus nemeai oroszlán elleni harcban.

„Az amfora közel 40 éve az ANU múzeumának kulcsfontosságú kiállítási tárgya” – közölte az intézmény.
Az olasz rendőrség egy műkincstolvaj utáni nyomozás közben fedezett fel egy régi polaroid fotót a Héraklész vázáról, amiből azt a következtetést vonták le, hogy illegálisan küldték Ausztráliába az amforát.

A műtárgyakat David Holland Swingler, egy amerikai műkincskereskedő és élelmiszer-importőr csempészte az Egyesült Államokba tésztacsomagok és más olasz élelmiszerek közé rejtve, aki illegális ásatásokon akadt a felbecsülhetetlen érékű ókori leletek nyomára – számolt be az Origo a CBS-re hivatkozva.

A New York-i bíróság 42 elrabolt és az Egyesült Államokba csempészett régészeti lelet visszaszolgáltatásáról döntött Olaszországnak 3,5 millió dollár értékben.
A kivételes – mintegy 2500 éves – műtárgyakat az amerikai nyomozók egy New York-i ünnepségen adták vissza az olasz hatóságoknak – derült ki Alvin Bragg, Manhattan kerületi ügyészének közleményéből.
„Folytatjuk az évtizedeken átívelő, jól szervezett csempész hálózatok által Olaszországnak okozott károk elhárítását” – közölte Bragg, megjegyezve, hogy már több mint 200 műtárgyat szolgáltattak vissza Rómának, amióta 2022-ben átvette a manhattani kerületi ügyészséget.
Vincenzo Molinese olasz csendőrtábornok üdvözölte az olasz-amerikai együttműködésnek köszönhető nyomozás nagy sikerét.
A visszaszolgáltatott művek között van egy i. e. 335-ben készült, az olaszországi Puglia régióból származó edény, amelyet a New York-i hatóságok szerint egy dél-itáliai temetkezési helyről loptak el.
A művet júliusban foglalták le egy New York-i magángyűjtőtől.
Két, az etruszk korból, i.e. 440-ből származó csempeképet az 1980-as években loptak el Közép-Olaszországban.
New Yorkban, a Metropolitan Művészeti Múzeumnak, valamint a Christie’s és a Sotheby’s aukciósháznak otthont adó városban a manhattani ügyészség 2017-ben indította a kampányt, amelynek célja visszaszolgáltatni az 1970 és 1990 között a világszerte lopott, Európába és az Egyesült Államokba csempészett, majd a New York-i múzeumokból és magángyűjteményekből lefoglalt műtárgyakat.
Bragg hivatali idejében eddig több mint ezer műtárgyat adtak vissza 185 millió dollár értékben 19 országnak, köztük Kambodzsának, Kínának, Indiának, Pakisztánnak, Egyiptomnak, Iraknak, Görögországnak, Törökországnak és Olaszországnak.
