Legalább egy halálos áldozata és több sérültje van az Egyesült Államok déli államain végigsöprő viharoknak. Louisianában tornádók pusztítottak, a hatóságok szerint tíz embert vittek kórházba. Texasban szintén tornádó pusztított, az állam keleti részén pedig egy egész település vált megközelíthetetlenné a villámárvizek miatt.
Felismerhetetlenné vált az egyik texasi üzlet a tornádó pusztítása után. Az épület egyik fele kártyavár módjára omlott össze az orkánerejű szél hatására. A falak egy része eltűnt, a tető néhány darabja pedig leszakadt.
Rendkívül heves viharok söpörtek végig az Egyesült Államok legdélebbi államán.
Rengeteg épület rongálódott meg, és több mint százezren maradtak áram nélkül.
„Reggel 7–8 óra körül kaptunk egy hívást, hogy az egyik éttermünk megsérült. A szél a mi tetőnkre fújta a szomszéd utca törmelékeit, körülbelül 150 kilométer/órás széllökések voltak. Több lyuk is keletkezett a tetőn” – panaszolta az egyik károsult.
Ennél is súlyosabb gondot jelentenek az állam keleti részét sújtó áradások. A meteorológiai szolgálat zivatarriadót adott ki nagy jégesőre és erős, károkat okozó szélre figyelmeztetve a texasiakat. Több település is víz alá került, sokakat ki kellett menteni az elárasztott otthonukból. Számos útszakaszt lezártak.
Hasonló a helyzet Louisianában, ahol szintén egyszerre pusztítottak tornádók és árvizek. Két forgószél is végigsöpört az államon.
Több otthon is összeomlott, de a kidőlt fák és a leszakadt villanyvezetékek is rengeteg kárt okoztak.
Közben az áradások miatt számtalan iskolában szünetel az oktatás. Van olyan település, ahol 30 centiméternyi eső hullott egyetlen óra alatt. Sokakat kórházba kellett vinni.
„Ez az egyik legsúlyosabban érintett terület a kerületünkben. Több mint 50 embert kellett evakuálnunk ebből az épületből, halálos áldozatok nincsenek, van néhány sérültünk. Egyszerűen elképesztő” – mondta a helyi rendőrfőnök.
Az ítéletidő más államokat is súlyosan érintett.
Mississippi államban, ahol már kedd óta tart a viharos időjárás, több mint 70 épület rongálódott meg, egy ember pedig meghalt.
A hatóságok emellett arra figyelmeztettek, hogy itt is lehetnek áradások.
A meteorológiai szolgálat szerint a rossz időnek még közel sincs végre. Ahogy a front Észak felé halad, a hét további felére további amerikai államokban is viharokat jósolnak.

Az amerikai Országos Hurrikán Központ közlése szerint a trópusi vihar New Orleans környékén ért partot, miután Floridában özönvízszerű esőzéseket és legalább egy, pusztító tornádót okozott.
A New Orleans tengerparti vidékein élő közösségeket már vasárnap délután figyelmeztették, hogy hagyják el otthonaikat, mert nem tudni, hogy a várost védő gátrendszer mennyire képes ellenállni az erős viharnak. New Orleans déli vidékein már szombaton kötelező evakuálást rendeltek el. A vihar a tenger hullámait és a New Orleansnál fekvő, 1600 négyzetkilométeres területen terpeszkedő Pontchartrain-tó vizét másfél-kétméteres magasra korbácsolja.
A Cristobal óránként 80-90 kilométeres széllökésekkel, özönvízszerű esőzéssel mintegy 300 kilométer hosszú sávban pusztít Alabama, Mississippi és Louisiana partjainál. Alabamában egy szigethez vezető hidat teljesen le kellett zárni, a Dauphin-szigetről az időjárástól függően kimentik az ott tartózkodókat. Mississippiben víz alá kerültek a tengerparti strandok és a part menti országutak is.
Donald Trump amerikai elnök szükségállapotot hirdetett Louisiana egész területére, ami azt jelenti, hogy a déli tagállam szövetségi anyagi támogatást kérhet a vihar utáni károk elhárításához.
A meteorológusok előrejelzései szerint a vihar nemcsak Louisianában, hanem a szomszédos Mississippi államban is okozhat komoly károkat. Várhatóan megárad a Mississippi és a térség többi folyója is, mivel egyes vidékeken akár 300 milliméternyi csapadék is hullhat.A viharzóna az előrejelzések szerint kedden Arkansas és Missouri államok felé fordul és egészen az északi Nagy Tavak vidékéig pusztít majd.
