 Többen fényképeket tettek közzé a pusztításról, és felháborodásukat fejezték ki a közösségi oldalakon. A The Salt Lake Tribune online portál tudósítása szerint a helyszínt üzemeltető US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Moab helyszíni irodája végezte a Mill Canyon Dinosaur Tracksite sétány helyreállítását, hogy javítsák a látogatók biztonságát. A szemtanúk szerint azonban a kotró a régi sétány egyes szakaszait úgy bontotta meg, hogy azt a dinoszaurusz-nyomok mellé halmozta fel. Az építkezést azonnal leállították.
 A dinoszaurusz nyomvonalat még 2009-ben fedezték fel, és a helyet 2013-ban nyitották meg a nagyközönség számára. A Science magazin szerint a Mill Canyon Utah legjelentősebb dinoszaurusz-nyomvonala, amely több mint 200 megkövesedett kréta kori dinoszaurusz lábnyomot tartalmaz, és amelyeket legalább tíz dinoszauruszfaj hagyott maga után, köztük óriási hosszúnyakú Sauropodák, két lábon járó Iguanodonok, páncélos Stegosaurusok és vad, húsevő Allosaurusok.  A The Salt Lake Tribune szerint a helyszínen járt tudósok arra figyelmeztettek, hogy a dinoszaurusznyomok rendkívül törékenyek.
 A kezdetektől fogva ismert volt, hogy a tartó réteg kemény, de vékony és törékeny – mondta Lee Shenton, a Utah Friends of Paleontology Moab csoportjának elnöke, amit a LiveScience online tudományos portál idéz. – Kínából, Koreából, Argentínából, Spanyolországból, az Egyesült Királyságból és az Egyesült Államokból is vannak szakértőink, akik kivétel nélkül azt mondják: „Ne sétáljunk ezen az ösvényen többet, mint amennyire feltétlenül muszáj, mert eltörhet a súly alatt”.
 Hozzátette: lehet, hogy a törések nem látszanak, de a következő fagyos olvadáskor ezek kinyílhatnak, és a nyomok megsemmisülhetnek.
 A BLM nem végez több építkezést a Mill Canyon ösvényen addig, amíg a vizsgálat le nem zárul.

 Tiltakozásuk részeként a tisztek a város katonai rendőrségének bázisához vonultak és lezárták a bejáratot, hogy megakadályozzák a sztrájkhoz nem csatlakozó erők további munkáját. Gomes szenátor egy ellentüntetést hirdetett meg és felszólította a sztrájkolókat, hogy azonnal nyissák meg az utat. Azt mondta nekik, hogy öt percet ad rá, hogy megnyissák a támaszpont bejáratát. 
 Miután a demonstrálók nem tettek eleget a szenátor felszólításának, Gomes egy markolóba ült, amit nekivezetett a kerítésnek ami mögött a tiltakozók voltak.
 Ezek után több lövés is eldördült, amelyből legkevesebb kettő el is találta a szenátort. Az nem tisztázott, hogy pontosan ki adta le a lövéseket, annyi biztos, hogy nem éles lőszert, hanem gumilövedéket használt a lövész.
