Mauritiuson a legmagasabb fokú riadókészültséget rendelték el kedden a Belal ciklon miatt, amely végigsöpört a kis indiai-óceáni országon, széles körű károkat okozva, egy ember életét vesztette.
Hétfőn pusztító ciklon csapott le a Franciaországhoz tartozó Réunion szigetre. A ciklon az 1,3 millió lakosú Mauritiust is elérte és a riasztási fokozatot 4-esre, a maximális szintre emelték a ciklon átvonulását követően. A BBC 90 kilométer/órát meghaladó erejű széllökésekről számolt be.
A kormány mindenkit arra utasított, hogy maradjon otthon. Kedd délig kijárási tilalom van érvényben csak néhányan, például a mentésben dolgozók mehetnek ki. A hatóságok jelezték azt is, hogy az iskolák kedden zárva maradnak.
A szigeten több ezer ember maradt áram nélkül, a fővárosban, Port Louis-ban sok autó víz alá került, egyes esetekben a járműveket az áramlatok elsodorták. A területet hétfőn özönvízszerű esőzések és óránként több mint 100 kilométeres széllökések sújtották.
További értesítésig zárva tart a fővárosi repülőtér. A rendőrség közölte, hogy egy motoros holttestét találták meg egy elárasztott országúton, aki közúti baleset áldozata lett.
A Belal ciklon középpontja Mauritiustól mintegy 210 kilométerre dél-délkeletre van, és a helyi meteorológiai szolgálat szerint óránként mintegy 18 kilométeres sebességgel halad délkelet felé.

„A Freddie ciklon rendkívül erős, közvetlen veszélyt jelent Mauritius, Rodrigues és Saint-Brandon szigetére” – közölte a miniszterelnük.
Beszédében felszólította Mauritius lakosságát, hogy tegyenek meg minden szükséges óvintézkedést, maradjanak otthon és maradjanak éberek.
Freddy február 5-én jött létre Ausztrália partjaitól északnyugatra, február 11-re pedig már 4-es erősségű ciklonná fejlődött az Indiai-óceán felett. Érdekesség, hogy nagy eséllyel Freddy lesz a harmadik trópusi ciklon, ami élete során teljesen átszeli az Indiai-óceán déli részét. Ezt utoljára 2000-ben a Leon-Eline és a Hudah ciklonoknak sikerült megtenniük.

A japán Wakashio teherhajó júliusban futott zátonyra az üdülőparadicsomnál, a tengerbe ömlő mintegy ezer tonna dízel- és fűtőolaj súlyosan károsította az élővilágot. Japán megígérte, hogy hosszú távú segítséget nyújt Mauritiusnak.
Szuga Josihide kiemelte, hogy a segítség nemcsak az olajszennyezés további megállítására vagy eltávolítására terjed ki, de társadalmi és gazdasági területeken is érvényesül. Hangoztatta, olyan támogatást ajánlanak, amely közép- és hosszú távon jelent majd együttműködést.
A panamai zászló alatt hajózó japán Wakashio teherhajó július 25-én futott zátonyra az Indiai-óceánon fekvő üdülőparadicsomnál, és a légifelvételek tanúsága szerint a belőle kifolyó, mintegy ezer tonna dízel- és fűtőolaj nagy területen szétterjedt.
A helyi kormány augusztus 7-én rendkívüli környezeti szükséghelyzetet hirdetett attól tartva, hogy a szennyezés kihat a tengeri állatvilág veszélyeztetett fajaira, madarakra, teknősökre. A part menti vizeken betiltották a halászatot.
A helyi kormány 34 millió dollár (több mint 10 milliárd forint) kártérítést kért Japántól azért, hogy ebből az összegből egyebek között támogassák a helyi halászközösséget az elszenvedett károk miatt.
Mauritius azt is tervezi, hogy a kért összegből 100 halászbárkát építenek, helyreállítanak egy kutatóközpontot, továbbá kiképeznek 474 halászt és 60 hajóskapitányt, akik a távolabbi vizeken, a nyílt tengeren halásznának.

Fotó: EN/TW/Uma A sziget délkeleti partjainál több mint egy hónapja egy zátonyra futott, japán tulajdonú hajóból olaj ömlött a tengerbe. Eddig legalább negyven delfin tetemét találták meg a közelében.
Környezetvédők azt követelték, vizsgálják ki, hogy a delfinek az MV Vakasio nevű teherhajó szerencsétlensége és az azt követő olajömlés miatt múltak-e ki. A tüntetők között akadt, aki a kormány lemondását követelte egy magasba emelt táblán.
A kormány megígérte, mindegyik elpusztult tengeri emlőst felboncolják. Az olajömlés kivizsgálására bizottságot állítottak fel.
Az állatorvosok eddig két delfintetemet vizsgáltak meg: az előzetes eredmények szerint sérülések nyomait találták csak rajtuk, olajnyomokat nem.
A halászati minisztérium munkatársa, Jasvin Sok Appadu szerint a szerdán és csütörtökön partra vetett 25 delfin boncolási eredményei a napokban várhatók.
A szombaton szintén demonstráló Eco-Sud helyi környezetvédő csoport közleményében azt kérte, hogy a boncolásokon részt vehessenek a nem kormányzati szervezetek is, valamint a delfinpusztulás okairól kérjék független szakértők véleményét is a hatóságok.

A július 25-én Mauritius partjainál zátonyra futott japán hajó kettétört, ami azt jelenti, hogy az Indiai-óceánba ömlik a maradék üzemanyag is – számolt be a euronews.
A türkizkék vízben szétterjedő olaj óriási természeti károkat okoz a védett területek közelében. Tönkre teszi a korallzátonyokat és magát a festői szépségű partot is.
A hajótest két darabra tört. A helyszínre küldött vontatóhajók már megkezdték a munkát.
Múlt héten a megmaradt mintegy 3 ezer tonna üzemanyag nagy részét kiszivattyúzták a hajóból, miután környezetvédelmi csoportok arra figyelmeztettek, hogy a korábban érintetlen partvidék károsodása visszafordíthatatlan lehet.
Eddig is önkéntesek ezrei dolgoztak a helyszínen a környezetvédelmi minisztérium támogatásával, hogy próbálják enyhíteni a természeti katasztrófa hatásait.

Mauritiuson szivattyúzással sikerült megállítani az üzemanyag szivárgását a zátonyra futott japán teherhajóból – közölték szerdán a helyi hatóságok.
A panamai zászló alatt közlekedő, Wakashio nevű japán teherhajó július 25-én futott zátonyra az Indiai-óceánon, a Madagaszkár mellett fekvő üdülőparadicsom partjainál. A hajótest mostanra a folyamatos hullámzás hatására megrepedt, üzemanyagtartályából csütörtök óta folyt a gázolaj.
A hatóságok ökológiai vészhelyzetet hirdetettek, mert mintegy ezer tonna gázolaj ömlött a tengerbe, súlyosan veszélyeztetve a környezetet. A tartályokból ezer tonnányit kiszivattyúztak, 460 tonnányit a tengerből gyűjtöttek össze. Keddre már csupán 1800 tonna üzemanyag maradt a hajón.
Bár a szivárgást megállították, most az a veszély fenyeget, hogy kettétörik a hajótest és a megmaradt gázolaj is a tengerbe kerül. A japán tulajdonos is megerősítette, hogy kiszélesedett a hajótesten keletkezett rés. A jármű önállóan képtelen haladni, ezért vontatóra vették, hogy az áramlatok hatására ne sodródjon el.
Pravind Jugnauth mauritiusi miniszterelnök megköszönte annak a több ezer önkéntesnek a munkáját, aki a gázolaj összegyűjtésében és a partok tisztításában részt vesz.
A mintegy 300 méter hosszú, 2007-ben épített hajó 20 fős, nemzetközi személyzetét épségben kimentették.

Hírügynökségek pénteki jelentése szerint a panamai zászló alatt hajózó japán teherhajó még július 25-én futott zátonyra az Indiai-óceánon fekvő üdülőparadicsomnál, és a levegőből készült fényképek szerint a belőle kifolyó dízel és olaj egyre nagyobb felületet borít a türkiz vizeken.
L’Express című helyi újságban elfeketedett strandokról és elpusztult tengeri élőlényekről készült fotók jelentek meg.
A Greenpeace környezetvédő szervezet szerint félő, hogy a szennyezésnek pusztító következményei lesznek. „Az MV Wakashio július 25-én feneklett meg, és most már több tonnányi dízel és olaj ömlik belőle az óceánba” – mondta Happy Khambule, a Greenpeace afrikai szervezetének egyik menedzsere, aki szerint ezernyi fajt fenyeget pusztulás veszélye a Kék-öböl, Pointe d’Esny és Mahebourg vizeinél, ami súlyos következményekkel járna a gazdaságra, az élelmiszerbiztonságra és az egészségre Mauritiuson.
A mauritiusi természetvédelmi alap ügyvezető igazgatója, Deborah de Chazal közölte, a japán hajó négyezer tonna üzemanyagot szállított.
Elmondta, hogy merülőfalakat helyeztek el a hajó és más kulcsfontosságú helyek, így a Kék-öböl tengeri park körül, hogy felfogják a szennyeződést. Külföldről is érkezik felszerelés és segítség, mivel Mauritiuson nincsenek meg a megfelelő eszközök az olajszennyezés kezelésére.
A Nagashiki Shipping tulajdonában lévő hajó Brazíliából tartott Szingapúrba, a történtek okát még vizsgálják. A teherhajó húsz fős legénysége sértetlenül átvészelte a balesetet, és most karanténban van az Afrika keleti partjai mellett fekvő szigeten a koronavírus-járvány miatt.
