Egy álma vált valóra a dél-mexikói Ocosingo falu lakóinak 2020 szeptemberében: a helyi óvoda 20 millió pesót (több mint 300 millió forint) nyert egy lottószelvénnyel. Az álom azonban rövidesen rémálommá változott, ugyanis egy helyi bűnbanda fegyvervásárlásra szemelte ki az összeget – egy konkurens banda ellen kívánva felhasználni –, és megfenyegette a szülőket – jelentette a bbc.
Az óvodába alig több, mint kéttucatnyi gyerek jár, így nagy lelkesedéssel fogott bele az intézmény az épület korszerűsítésébe. A száz nyertes listáját 2020 szeptemberében hirdették ki, és tették közzé a mexikói újságokban. A váratlan esemény eleinte okot adott az ünneplésre, azonban a problémák nem sokkal azután kezdődtek, hogy a hír elterjedt.
A nyeremény nyilvánosságra hozatala után fenyegetést kaptak a helyi Los Petules nevű bűnbandától, akik a nyereményt követelték maguknak.
A szülők visszautasították a fenyegetést és a pénz egy részét az óvoda felújítására költötték. Az erőszakos cselekmények idén fokozódtak, amikor az óvoda épületének felújítása után a fennmaradó összeget a szülők a település fejlesztésére szerették volna költeni. Márciusban egy helyi férfit meglőttek, a múlt hónapban pedig a banda nőkre és gyerekekre támadt az utcán a pénzt követelve. Több család félve a megtorlástól rövidesen elmenekült a faluból. Mexikóban nem ritkák a fegyveres konfliktusok és a helyi bűnbandák összecsapásai.
