A Nicholas kedden lelassult Houston felett, miután 1-es kategóriájú hurrikánként csapott le a texasi öböl partvidékére, és több mint félmillió lakos áramellátását szüntette meg. A Nemzeti Hurrikánközpont szerint a vihar még mindig “életveszélyes árvizeket” okozhat a déli mélységekben az elkövetkező napokban.
A Nicholas, az idei hurrikánszezon 14. névre keresztelt vihara több mint kilenc centiméternyi csapadékot zúdított Houstonra – és egyes területeken ennek több mint kétszeresét is elérheti. Több mint hatmillió emberre adtak ki figyelmeztetés a hirtelen áradások miatt Texas délkeleti részétől egészen Florida Panhandle-ig.
2017-ben a Harvey hurrikán ugyanezen a területen rekordmennyiségű, 60 centiméternyi esővel csapott le, de Louisiana is lábadozik a két héttel ezelőtti Ida hurrikán után – írja a CBS News.
