A bejrúti kikötőben történt keddi nagy erejű robbanástól elsüllyedt a kikötőben horgonyzó Orient Queen óceánjáró.
A legénységnek a fedélzeten tartózkodó két tagja meghalt, heten megsérültek – közölte a tulajdonos, Mari Abu Mehri libanoni üzletember a NNA libanoni állami hírügynökség szerdai jelentése szerint.
Az 1989-ben épített, 121 méter hosszú, 7,4 ezer tonnás vízkiszorítású hajó bahamai zászló alatt hajózott, és a robbanás idején a bejrúti kikötőben horgonyzott. A robbanás során súlyosan megsérült a hajótest, és víz ömlött a hajó belsejébe. A mentési kísérletek nem jártak sikerrel, és a hajó elsüllyedt.
A hajótulajdonos gyors és átlátható vizsgálatot sürgetett a felelősök azonosítása és felelősségre vonása érdekében. Közben Farhan Haq ENSZ-szóvivő szerdán New Yorkban bejelentette, hogy mintegy száz ENSZ-alkalmazott sérült meg a keddi robbanásban.
„Kezelést kapnak, és reméljük, hogy rendbe jönnek” – mondta a szóvivő újságírók előtt, részvétét fejezve ki az áldozatok hozzátartozóinak.
