 Az intézet szerint 2019-ben 11,9 millió hektár trópusi esőerdő vált fakitermelés vagy tűzvész áldozatául, közte 3,8 millió hektárnyi érintetlen, az élővilág sokfélesége szempontjából különleges jelentőségű erdő. Csak 2016-ban és 2017-ben pusztult el a tavalyinál több érintetlen erdőség.
 Különösen sok őserdőt irtottak ki Brazíliában (1,4 millió hektár), Kongóban (475 millió hektár) és Indonéziában (324 millió hektár). Bolíviában és Ausztráliában olyan sok erdő vált tüzek martalékává, mint még soha a feljegyzések kezdete óta.
 Természetvédelmi szervezetek a World Research Institute vezetésével kísérik figyelemmel az erdőterületek alakulását a világon a Global Forest Watch projekt keretében, egyebek közt műholdak segítségével.

 A helyi hatóság azt akarja, hogy vessék be a Nemzeti Gárdát a bennszülöttek számára kialakított Araribóia területen. A kérés közvetlen előzménye, hogy szombaton fejbe lőtték a Guajajara törzs egyik tagját. A sebesült férfit kórháza szállították.
 Korábban, március 31-én ismeretlenek meggyilkoltak egy tanárt, aki rendszeresen fellépett az illegális fakitermelés ellen. Holttestére a faluja közelében bukkantak rá.
 Tavaly november óta a Guajajara törzs öt tagját gyilkolták meg.
 Maranhao állam emberi jogi képviselője, Francisco Concalves a szövetségi igazságügyi miniszterhez, Sérgio Moróhoz intézett levelében azt kérte, vessék be a Nemzeti Gárdát, hogy elejét vegyék a további konfliktusoknak és gyilkosságoknak. A dokumentumban szólt a régióban megmutatkozó szervezett bűnözésről és arról is, hogy az őslakosok lakta területen növekszik a feszültség.
 A brazil űrkutatási hivatal, az INPE adatai szerint idén januárban kétszer annyi esőerdőt vágtak ki Brazíliában, mint egy évvel korábban. Az év első hónapjában 284 négyzetkilométernyi erdő tűnt el a fakitermelés miatt a brazíliai Amazonas-vidéken.
 Az INPE műholdfelvételek kiértékelésével gyűjt adatokat az erdőirtásról. Ezek segítségével valós időben követi a zöldterület változását.
