A beszámolók szerint az összeomlott épület áldozatai között két gyermek is van, akiken szintén nem tudtak már segíteni a mentőegységek. Az összeomlás Brazília északkeleti részén történt, legkevesebb 8 áldozatról tudni.
Öt személyt pedig eltűntként tartanak nyilván, ám félő, hogy emiatt tovább fog nőni az áldozatok száma. Péntek este is zajlottak a kutatások a túlélők után, de a 8 és az 5 éves gyermeket sem lehetett már megmenteni.
Négy embert viszont élve sikerült kihúzni az összedőlt épületből. A helyszínen készített drónfelvételeken az látható, hogy a négyemeletes lakóház gyakorlatilag teljesen összeomlott, sokaknak esélyük sem lehetett a menekülésre.
Egyelőre nem világos, mi okozta az összeomlást, ami még péntek reggel történt – írja az Al Jazeera. Sok lakó valószínűleg még aludt, amikor bekövetkezett a hirtelen omlás, mely többeket egyik pillanatról a másikra temetett maga alá.
Lehetséges, hogy a heves esőzések lazították meg a talajt az épület alatt, és a helyi kormányzó már figyelmeztette az embereket, hogy további esőzésekre kell számítaniuk. Azt ajánlotta a honfitársainak, biztonságos épületeket keressenek maguknak.
