A karhatalom már „volt elnök”-ként hivatkozott a kongresszus által nem sokkal korábban elmozdított politikusra, aki szerdán elrendelte a törvényhozás feloszlatását. A rendőrség mikroblogján felvételeket is közzétett az őrizetbe vételről.
Az Andina helyi hírügynökség közlése szerint Castillót jelenleg az ügyészség hallgatja ki.
Pedro Castillo perui elnök bejelentette a kongresszus feloszlatását, és új alkotmány kidolgozására irányuló törvényhozási választásokat írt ki órákkal a felelősségre vonásáról szóló vita előtt, ami súlyosbította a politikai válságot, és veszélybe sodorta a latin-amerikai ország demokráciáját. Az alkotmánybíróság tagjai „puccsnak” minősítették a lépést − közölte a Bloomberg hírügynökség.
„A jogállamiság és a demokrácia helyreállítása érdekében kivételes kormány létrehozásáról döntöttünk. Mától kezdve az új kongresszus megalakulásáig rendeletekkel fogunk kormányozni” − mondta Castillo egy szerdai televíziós beszédében, hozzátéve, hogy a hivatalba lépő kongresszus kilenc hónapon belül új alkotmányt fog kidolgozni.
A kongresszus válaszul elutasította a vonatkozó elnöki rendeletet, és megszavazta, hogy az eddigi alelnök, Dina Boluarte vegye át Castillo helyét. Az elnök elmozdítására a 130 tagú kongresszusban 101 képviselő szavazott hat ellenében és tíz tartózkodás mellett.
Boluartét időközben beiktatták ideiglenes elnöknek, aki ezzel Peru első női államfője lett.
A 60 éves jogász szerdán tette le hivatali esküjét a limai törvényhozásban. A perui alkotmány értelmében az elnök elmozdítása esetén helyettese veszi át az államügyeket.
Boluarte kijelentette, hogy első intézkedései között szerepel majd a korrupció elleni fellépés, ami végtére Castillo bukását okozta.
„Puccskísérlet történt […], ami nem lelt támogatásra sem az intézményeknél, sem pedig az utcákon” – hangsúlyozta a frissen beiktatott elnök, aki politikai megbékélésre szólított mindenkit a nemzeti egység megteremtése érdekében. „Teret és időt kérek az ország megmentéséhez” – fogalmazott.
Castillo „volt elnökké” vált a kongresszus döntése értelmében – jelentette ki szerdai sajtótájékoztatóján Ned Price amerikai külügyi szóvivő, több latin-amerikai ország pedig aggodalmát fejezte ki a legutóbbi fejlemények miatt, és a demokrácia megóvását szorgalmazta.

Pedro Castillo „a nép ellenségeinek” nevezte a kormányával szemben állókat. A sisakos és műanyag pajzsos rendőrök több könnygázgránátot vetettek be, hogy megpróbálják feloszlatni a tömeget. Sérültekről a Reuters szerint nem érkezett azonnali jelentés.
Pedro Castillo, aki tavaly júliusban lépett hivatalába, már két vádemelési kísérletet is túlélt. Az ellenzéki törvényhozók újabb eljárást kezdeményeznek az elnök ellen, noha a kongresszus elismerte, hogy erre nem lesz elég szavazat. „Egy korrupcióba keveredett kormányt látunk, a kongresszus pedig nem reagál” – mondta Lucas Ghersi konzervatív ügyvéd, aki a „Peru Reagál” elnevezésű felvonulás egyik szervezője.
Októberben a perui főügyész alkotmányjogi panaszt nyújtott be Castillo ellen a kongresszushoz, amely a jobboldali ellenzék reményei szerint Castillo eltávolításával fog végződni.

Szombaton pedig a kormány ellen tüntető őslakosok szabadon engedték egy turistahajón tartott 98 túszukat, akik cselekvést várnak a kormánytól a környezetszennyező olajszivárgás ügyében, amely emberek halálát is okozta.
