Augusztus 5-én reggel közlekedési baleset történt a Viharos és Alsórosztoka falvak között: egy autó lesodródott az útról, a szakadékba zuhant, és egy patakba borult.
A helyszínre rövid időn belül kiérkezett a 1302-es számú mentőegység és a katasztrófavédelem (DSZNSZ) egységei. A 32 éves szlovák állampolgárságú sofőr a jármű belsejében rekedt. A mentősök és a tűzoltók közösen emelték meg az autót emelő segítségével, kiszabadították a férfit, fájdalomcsillapítót adtak neki, betakarták, és rögzítették a testét.

A szakadék hat méter mély és húsz méter hosszú lett, miután a vízmosta üreg fölött beszakadt az aszfalt. Az üreg felett parkoló autókat mind elnyelte a megnyíló föld, de a hírek szerint komoly sérülés nem történt.
A Corriere della Sera azt írja, hogy az omlás előtti napokban néhány lakos vízszivárgásról számolt be. A szivárgó víz kimoshatta a földet az úttest alól, és amikor már nem tartotta semmi, az aszfalt beomlott, és vitte magával a kocsikat is.
Az Olasz Környezetvédelmi és Kutatóintézet szerint az utóbbi időkben az olasz fővárosban megnőtt a víznyelők száma.Ezek kialakulását segítik a város földalatti alagútjai, csatornái és ősi kőbányái.
