A szenegáli hatóságok közlése szerint legkevesebb 30 bomló holttestet találtak egy hajón Szenegál partjainál. A katonai hatóságok által az X-en közzétett bejegyzésből derült ki, hogy a haditengerészet értesült egy hajóról, mely a fővárostól, Dakartól mintegy 70 kilométerre sodródott a vízen.
A bejegyzésben megjegyezték, a mentési, azonosítási és átadási műveleteket rendkívül kényessé teszi a holttestek előrehaladott bomlási állapota. A hatóságok szerint az áldozatok vélhetően napokon át sodródtak az Atlanti-óceánon, mielőtt a halászok rájuk találtak.
Egyelőre nem tudni, hogy mikor és honnan indult a hajó, és hányan voltak a fedélzeten. Korlátozzák a mobilinternetezést hétfőtől Szenegálban – jelentette be az ország távközlésért és digitális gazdaságért felelős minisztériuma.
A döntést azzal indokolták, hogy Ousmane Sonko ellenzéki politikus pénteki letartóztatása óta „gyűlöletkeltő és a közrend megzavarására alkalmas” üzenetek terjedtek a közösségi oldalakon.
A jövő évi elnökválasztáson indulni akaró Ousmane Sonkót népfelkelésre való uszítás és egyéb más bűncselekmények gyanújával vették őrizetbe – közölte az ország főügyésze szombaton.
A főügyész ugyanakkor hangsúlyozta, hogy a hétvégi őrizetbe vételnek nincs köze a június elsején született bírósági ítélethez, amelyben az akkor még szökésben lévő politikust szexuális visszaélés miatt találták bűnösnek, majd ítélték kétévi, szigorított börtönbüntetésre.
Azóta a közügyektől is eltiltották, így az elnökválasztáson sem indulhat.
Ousmane Sonko júniusban kihirdetett börtönbüntetése miatt zavargások törtek ki Szenegálban, amelyek a hatósági beszámolók szerint 16, az ellenzék szerint viszont mintegy 30 halálos áldozatot követeltek.
Az ellenzéki politikus a letartóztatása elleni tiltakozásul vasárnap éhségsztrájkba kezdett, és ellenállásra szólította fel az ország népét a közösségi médiában; az ellenzéki Yewwi Askan Wi koalíció pedig hétfőn arra kérte a lakosságot, hogy minél többen menjenek a dakari legfelsőbb bíróság épületéhez, ahol Sonko ügyét tárgyalják.

A baleset az ország északi, Louga régiójában történt, az autóbusz felborult egy faluban. A tragédia konkrét körülményei egyelőre nem ismertek, de a tűzoltóknak is részt kellett venniük a mentésben, Antoine Félix Abdoulaye Diome belügyminiszter pedig azonnal útnak indult a baleset helyszínére.
Macky Sall államfő az X (korábbi nevén Twitter) közösségi oldalán arra kérte a lakosságot, hogy az eddiginél is nagyobb óvatossággal közlekedjenek az ország közútjain.
Szenegálban az év eleje óta ez volt a harmadik olyan baleset, amely legalább 10 ember halálát okozta. Január 8-án két autóbusz ütközött össze miután az egyiknek felrobbant egy gumiabroncsa; az ország középső részén történt balesetben 40 ember vesztette életét.
Nyolc nappal később pedig szintén Louga régióban ütközött össze egy kamion és egy személyautó, 19 ember halálát és 24 sérülését okozva.
A szenegáli kormány a két baleset után mintegy 20 intézkedéssel megszigorította a közúti közlekedés szabályait és ellenőrzését. Az autóbuszok éjszakai és használt gumikkal való közlekedését egyaránt megtiltották, de az intézkedések egy részét a közlekedési szakma képviselői visszautasították arra hivatkozva, hogy az új szabályok túl szigorúak és alkalmazhatatlanok.
A januári balesetek ugyanakkor arra is rávilágítottak, hogy a szenegáli közutak állapota a szerkezeti hibák miatt nem kielégítő, és veszélyezteti a járművek épségét; valamint arra is, hogy a közúti ellenőrzést és a vezetői engedélyek megszerzését egyaránt érintő a korrupció miatt számos sofőr vezetési képességei is megkérdőjelezhetőek.

A közösségi oldalakra közben sorra töltenek fel civilek sokkoló videókat, a felvételeken a tömegből kiemelt tüntetők elleni brutális rendőri bánásmód látható.
Szombaton a főváros, Dakar külvárosából jelentettek összecsapásokat. A főváros több olyan negyedében azonban, ahol napok át erőszakos cselekmények zajlottak, a demonstrációk intenzitása csökkent a belügyminiszter szerint.
Antoine Diome elmondta, hogy az őrizetbe vett tiltakozók közülük többen politikai csoportokhoz tartoznak, de a többség nem köthető pártokhoz, így a politikus nyilatkozatából arra lehet következtetni, hogy többségében civilek tiltakoztak.
A belügyminiszter szerint Szenegált „okkult erők” támadták meg. „Külföldi befolyás van, és az országot támadás éri” – mondta. „Az ország működése szempontjából létfontosságú létesítményeket” vettek célba, hogy káoszt okozzanak – folytatta, különösen egy vízkiemelő üzemet említve.
„Nem fogunk engedni ezeknek a csoportoknak vagy ezeknek a külföldieknek, akik azért jöttek, hogy kifosszák az országunkat” – mondta korábban Mame Mbaye Niang idegenforgalmi miniszter.

– jelentette be Arancha González Laya spanyol külügyminiszter, miután tárgyalt a szenegáli külügyminiszterrel hétvégén annak érdekében, hogy megoldást találjanak az illegális migráció kezelésére.
González Laya úgy véli, hogy a migráció nagymértékű növekedésének egyik oka a koronavírus-helyzet gazdaságra gyakorolt hatása. Sajtóhírek szerint az európai állam további járőrhajókat és tengeri megfigyelő-repülőgépeket is küld a már Szenegálban szolgáló spanyol erők támogatására. Az afrikai országban jelenleg két spanyol járőrhajó és helikopter állomásozik.
Aïssata Tall Sall szenegáli külügyminiszter az AP hírügynökségnek adott nyilatkozatában elmondta, hogy a két ország közös céljai közé tartozik az olyan rendszerek kidolgozása, melyek a leendő migránsokat a törvényes úton való migrációra ösztönözné. Spanyolország és Szenegál olyan projektek megvalósítását is szorgalmazzák, melyek elősegítenék a migránsok visszatérését Afrikába, továbbá igyekeznek olyan programokat is megvalósítani, melyekkel a szenegáliak törvényes úton tudnának Európában munkát vállalni. Idén már mintegy 17 ezer migráns szállt partra a Kanári-szigeteken, ami a statisztikai adatok alapján jelentősen meghaladja a tavalyi adatokat. A Nemzetközi Migrációs Szervezet becslései szerint idén több mint negyven hajótörés történhetett a Kanári-szigetek felé vezető tengeri útvonalon, és legalább 511 migráns vesztette életét, miközben próbálta elérni a spanyol partokat. A szervezet továbbá mintegy 545-re becsüli azoknak a hajóknak a számát, melyek idén érkeztek a szigetcsoport területére. A spanyol szigetek nemcsak a szenegáliak, hanem a Marokkóból, Guineából és Mauritániából érkezettek körében is népszerű célpont.
A spanyol Guardia Civil elnevezésű szervezet már tizennégy éve, 2006 óta dolgozik együtt a szenegáli parti őrséggel azért, hogy megakadályozzák, hogy a migránsok elinduljanak Spanyolország irányába az Atlanti-óceánon. A szervezet fő feladata az emberkereskedelmi hálózatok felderítése és felszámolása. Múlt héten például egy 52 migránst szállító csónak feltartóztatásában is segédkeztek Mbour kikötőjében.
