A Lisszabon könyékén található Cascais üdülővárosban péntek délután történt a tragédia, a baleset körülményeiről a helyi hatóságok egyelőre nem nyilatkoztak. A 72 éves nagykövet az esés után még életben volt, azonban a mentősök már nem tudták megmenteni, az idős politikus még a helyszínen elhunyt.
