A brazil tűzoltóság beszámolója szerint egy hegyekben fekvő turistavárosban legalább 18 ember vesztett életét a viharok miatt. A helyi tűzoltók elárulták, hogy több mint 180 kollégájukkal és más mentőalakulatukkal dolgoznak a helyszínen.

Legalább 35-en meghaltak a nyugat-indiai Mahárástra államban a monszunesők okozta földcsuszamlásokban és áradásokban.
Uddhav Thackeray, Mahárástra főminisztere azt közölte, hogy a mentésben a hadsereg is részt vesz, egy másik tisztségviselő szerint viszont a munkálatok így is lassan haladnak, mert a heves esőzések és a kiöntött folyók miatt a munkagépeket nehezen mozgatják. A rossz időjárási viszonyok miatt több száz falu vált megközelíthetetlenné.
Az állam folyói azután öntöttek ki, hogy a hatóságok megnyitották a víztározókat, miután a térség egyes részein több mint 200 milliméter csapadék hullott le 24 óra alatt. Több száz településen – falvakban és kisebb városokban – nincs áram, sem ivóvíz. Megemelkedett a folyók vízszintje a szomszédos Karnátaka és Telangána államokban is, a helyi hatóságok azt közölték, hogy figyelemmel kísérik a helyzetet.

Közel egymillió ember nem jut tiszta és biztonságos ivóvízhez Louisiana államban, mert a téli viharok és a rekordalacsony hőmérséklet súlyos károkat okozott a vízközműhálózatok infrastruktúrájában – közölte csütörtökön John Bel Edwards, az Egyesült Államok déli részén fekvő tagállam kormányzója.
Sajtótájékoztatóján a demokrata politikus elmondta, hogy akiknek még zavartalan a vízellátása, azoknak is azt tanácsolják, hogy fertőtlenítés céljából forralják fel a vizet, mielőtt elfogyasztanák.

Százötven milliárd dollár biztosított veszteséget okozott a 2020-as év tíz legpusztítóbb időjárási katasztrófája világszerte – derült ki egy új jelentésből. Ez meghaladja a 2019-es mutatókat és jól tükrözi a globális felmelegedés hosszú távú hatását.
A természeti katasztrófák legkevesebb 3500 emberéletet követeltek és több mint 13,5 millió embert kényszerítettek otthonaik elhagyására.

Mostanra Kalifornia történetének egyik legnagyobb összterületű bozóttüzeiről lehet beszélni: szombat reggelre 560 tűz, három jól elkülöníthető csoportban összesen háromezer négyzetkilométerre terjedt ki hivatalos közlés szerint.
Több mint 12 ezer tűzoltó küzd a lángokkal, helikopterek és repülőgépek támogatásával.
