A legnagyobb tömeges esemény a korlátozások feloldása óta
A tragédia Merón városában történt, ahol a 2. században élt rabbi, a zsidó miszticizmus egyik vezéralakja, Simon bar Jocháj sírja található, aki a hagyomány szerint ezen a napon fedte fel a kabbala legmélyebb titkait. Benjámin Netanjahu izraeli kormányfő súlyos tragédiának nevezte a történteket, és Twitter-üzenetében azt írta, hogy imádkozik az áldozatokért. Reuven Rivlin izraeli elnök szintén azt üzente: imádkozik azért, hogy a sérültek minél előbb felépüljenek.
