A meteorológiai intézet előrejelzése szerint hőségrekordot dönthet a szombatról vasárnapra virradó éjszaka a nagyvárosban és közelében. A tűzoltók ezért ott is készültségben állnak, éppúgy mint Dél-Ausztráliában. A hőség az emberekre is veszélyes lehet: „a 75 év felettiek különösen veszélyeztetettek főként, ha van valamilyen alapbetegségük” – mondja egy orvosszakértő.
A G20 államok közül Ausztrália állapota a legrosszabbak közé tartozik, mert még mindig nem dolgoztak ki átfogó programot arra, miképp lehet csökkenteni a szén-dioxid-kibocsátást, amely jelentős részben felelős a hőhullámok kialakulásáért – emlékeztet a Guardian. A Climate Transparency legújabb jelentése szerint Ausztrália nem küzd hatékonyan a klímaváltozás ellen, mert a gazdasági érdekek ezt megakadályozzák.
