Az USS Mason egy Arleigh Burke-osztályú rakétás romboló; az Egyesült Államok által vezetett koalíció tagjaként dolgozik a Vörös-tengeren. Célja a húszik kereskedelmi hajóforgalom elleni támadásainak megakadályozása.
A húszik azt állítják, hogy támadásaikkal Izraelt akarják nyomás alá helyezni, hogy állítsa le a Hamász ellen folytatott háborút.
