Lihovij elmondása szerint az oroszok által ledobott eszköz hasonít azokra, amelyeket a rendőrség a tüntetések feloszlatására használ. A szóvivő hozzátette: nem ez az első alkalom, hogy a megszállók a fronton használták ezt az anyagot.

Az állam keleti részén található Blue Grass Army Depot katonai létesítmény az egyik legnagyobb amerikai fegyverraktár, ahol a hagyományos lőszerek mellett vegyi fegyvereket is tárol a hadsereg.
Az amerikai hadsereg hamarosan megsemmisíti az itt tárolt 51 ezer darab M-55 típusú, szarin (GB) ideggázzal töltött rakétáit, ezáltal az utolsó vegyi fegyvereitől is megszabadul az ország.
Az Egyesült Államok egy több évtizedes kampány keretében kezdte el megsemmisíteni vegyi fegyvereit, melyekből az I. világháború kezdetétől a hidegháború végére 30 ezer tonnányit halmozott fel.
Az utolsó vegyifegyver-készletek egy része már ártalmatlanításra került a múlt hónapban egy Colorado államban található speciális kémiai megsemmisítőközpontban (PCAPP), amelyet direkt az ilyen típusú fegyverek eltüntetésére hoztak létre az ötvenes években.
A katonák egy speciálisan erre a célra kifejlesztett, nagy hatásfokú égetőben semmisítik meg a vegyi fegyvereket, melyekben többek között rendkívül mérgező mustárgáz és szarin is található.
„Az utolsó amerikai vegyi fegyverek megsemmisítése egy fontos fejezetet zár le a hadtörténelemben, de már nagyon várjuk már hogy lezáruljon” – mondta Kingston Reif, az amerikai leszerelési és fenyegetéscsökkentési program igazgatója.
Az Egyesült Államok a nemzetközi Vegyifegyver-tilalmi Egyezmény (CWC) keretében vállalta, hogy szeptember 30-ig megsemmisíti összes vegyi fegyverét.
