 A helyszínre operatív csoport vonult ki. A rendőrök részletes helyszíni szemlét tartottak, és dokumentálták a feltárt tényeket.
 
 Az összegyűjtött adatokat a nyomozók bevezették az Egységes Előzetes Nyomozási Nyilvántartásba az Ukrán Büntető Törvénykönyv 239. cikkének (1) bekezdése alapján – földszennyezés gyanújával. Jelenleg vizsgálatok zajlanak az elkövetők azonosítása, valamint a veszélyes hulladék eredetének megállapítása érdekében. A vizsgálatba környezetvédelmi szakértőket is bevonnak.
 A rendőrség hangsúlyozza: az orvosi hulladékkal való illegális bánásmód elfogadhatatlan, mivel súlyos veszélyt jelent a környezetre és az állampolgárok egészségére.
 Erről a Kárpátaljai Megyei Rendőrség kommunikációs osztálya tájékoztatott.

 Sebastian Novachkiewicz, a Sitkawka-Novina település vezetője szerint a tüzet valószínűleg szándékos  gyújtogatás vagy a közeli tarlóégetés átterjedése okozta.
 A fekete füstfelhők több kilométerre láthatóak voltak, közelből viszont látni lehetett, amint a robbanások erejétől a levegőbe repültek a vegyi anyagokat tartalmazó hordók. A helyszínre a tűzoltókon kívül egy, a vegyi balesetek elhárítására specializálódott csoport érkezett.

 A városban megszólaltak a szirénák, amik a vészhelyzetre figyelmeztettek. A helyi hatóságok és a média tájékoztatták a helyi lakosokat a lehetséges veszélyről, és mindenkit arra kértek, hogy maradjanak otthon, ne menjenek ki az utcára.  A tűz helyszínén metánrobbanás alakult ki. A tüzet eloltották, a városban eltörölték a vészhelyzetet, jelentette a Hromadszke.
