A MET Office sárga színű figyelmeztetést adott ki Délnyugat-, Északkelet- és Észak-Angliára, továbbá Wales és Skócia nagy részére – írja a Sky News. Mint írják, az éjszaka alatt több mint harmincezer villámcsapás volt, amelyek „túlnyomó többsége” a tenger felett.

A szélsőséges időjárás, illetve az ezzel járó intenzív eső és heves szelek miatt már tizenegy ember vesztette életét Dél-Afrikában – írja a The Guardian.
48 óra alatt 100–200 milliméter eső esett a dél-afrikai Nyugat-Fokföld tartományban, ami miatt áradások alakultak ki, miközben az erős szelek háztetőket és elektromos vezetékeket szakított le, utakat tett tönkre.
A fokvárosi katasztrófavédelem közlése szerint a szélsőséges időjárás tizenkétezer embert érintett közvetlenül, de további 80 ezer ember maradt áram nélkül. Fokvárosban közel 80 utat zártak le, miközben felfüggesztették a vasúti szolgáltatásokat.
A hivatalos adatok szerint eddig tizenegyen vesztették életüket, ugyanakkor az árvíz lecsengésével ez a szám még növekedhet.
A halálesetek közül nyolcat áramütés okozott, amikor a víz ellepte az illegálisan csatlakoztatott villanyvezetékeket – ezek általában a város szegényebb negyedeire jellemzőek, akik így kötik be az áramot otthonaikba. Az áradások miatt közel tizenötezer lakást vágtak le az elektromos hálózatról.
Tavaly az ország déli része helyett annak keleti részén voltak villámáradások – akkor több mint 300 ember vesztette életét a szélsőséges időjárás következtében.

Az északnyugati Gorenjska tartományban, Skofja Loka városában több mint száz épületet, köztük egy sportcsarnokot öntött el a víz, az utakat pedig földcsuszamlások torlaszolták el – írta az STA szlovén hírügynökség.
A hatóságok arra kérték az érintett területeken élőket, hogy csak akkor hagyják el otthonaikat, ha feltétlenül szükséges. A katasztrófavédelem 12 órán belül több mint ezer, viharral kapcsolatos bejelentést kapott, a tűzoltók több városban egész éjjel szivattyúzták a vizet az elárasztott épületekből, mentették az elárasztott járműveket, és tisztították az utakat.
Az országban már júliusban is több nagy vihar pusztított, egy ember életét vesztette, és jelentős károk keletkeztek az épületekben, autókban és a mezőgazdaságban, több tízezren pedig áram nélkül maradtak. A héten Észak-Szlovénián óránként 107 kilométeres sebességgel már egy tornádó is végigsöpört, amely házak tetejét vitte magával, és villanyvezetékeket, fákat döntött ki.

A helyi rendőrség beszámolója szerint egy közeli patakból a hirtelen lezúduló eső miatt mintegy másfél méter magas víztömeg zúdult az útra, amelyen tucatnyi jármű haladt, és amelyek közül a víz hármat elsodort.
A víz erejét jelzi, hogy a mentőegységek beszámolója szerint volt olyan autó, amelyet két és fél kilométerrel távolabb találtak meg.
Az Egyesült Államok délnyugati részén ugyanakkor a hőség miatt van érvényben változatlanul időjárási riasztás. Elsősorban sivatagos államokat, Arizonát és Nevadát, valamint Texas egyes részeit érinti a rendkívüli és elhúzódó forróság, ami számos helyen 40 fokot meghaladó napi csúcshőmérsékleteket jelent.
