Kedden valaki kiürítette a Silk Road 1 milliárd dollárnyi bitcoint tartamazó tárcáját. Az internet azóta azon spekulált, hogy vajon ki juthatott hozzá a pénzhez.
Egy frissen közzétett bírósági dokumentum szerint az amerikai igazságügyi minisztérium volt a hunyó: az eljárást még 2015-ben indították meg a sötét webáruház ellen, de amúgy az FBI 2013 óta vizsgálja a felületet.
A pénz egyébként nem is a Silk Road üzemeltetőinél volt, 2012-ben egy hacker feltörte a tárcát és átvette fölötte az irányítást. Az amerikai hatóságok megtalálták a személyt és meggyőzték róla, hogy adja át az Egyesült Államok kormányának a pénzt.
A Silk Road 2011-ben indult, főleg kábítószert árultak. 2017-re sikerült teljesen megszüntetni a weboldalt.
