Суд у Нью-Йорку визначив покарання для експрезидента Гондурасу Хуана Орландо Ернандеса – 45 років ув’язнення за злочини, пов’язані з наркобізнесом.
Про це повідомляє Reuters.
У березні суд присяжних Мангеттену визнав 55-річного Ернандеса винним в отриманні хабарів на мільйони доларів за те, що прикривав доправлення до США партій кокаїну, що належали наркоторговцям, проти яких він колись публічно проголосив боротьбу.
Зазначається, що він використовував гроші від продажу наркотиків для підкупу посадовців і маніпуляцій з результатами голосування на президентських виборах у Гондурасі у 2013-му і 2017 роках. Кілька засуджених наркоторговців засвідчили, що вони давали Ернандесу хабарі.
Федеральні прокурори США наполягали на довічному ув’язненні, зауважує Reuters.

Колишній президент Гондурасу Хуан Орландо Ернандес був засуджений у п’ятницю у Нью-Йорку. Його звинуватили у змові з наркоторговцями та використанні армії й національної поліції країни для забезпечення безперешкодного трафіку тонн кокаїну в Сполучені Штати. Про це пише Associated Press.
За даними видання суд присяжних виніс вердикт у федеральному суді після двотижневого розгляду справи.
Прокуратура США звинуватила Ернандеса у співпраці з наркоторговцями ще в 2004 році, заявивши, що він отримав мільйони доларів хабарів, коли піднявся від сільського конгресмена до президента Національного конгресу, а потім до найвищої посади країни.
Ернандес під час свідчень на суді визнав, що гроші за наркотики платили практично всім політичним партіям Гондурасу, але сам до останнього заперечував отримання хабаря. Він сказав, що його обвинувачення сфабриковані та вимагав поблажливості за своїх злочинів.
Але прокуратура висміяла Ернандеса за те, що він нібито-то єдиний чесний політик Гондурасу.
Під час заключних аргументів у суді помічник прокурора США Джейкоб Гутвілліг сказав присяжним, що корумпований Ернандес „проклав кокаїнову магістраль до Сполучених Штатів”.
Адвокат захисту Ренато Стабіле заявив, що його клієнту „було висунуто неправомірне звинувачення”, оскільки він наполягав на виправданні.
У виданні завважили, що серед свідків процесу були торговці людьми, які визнали відповідальність за десятки вбивств і сказали, що Ернандес був щирим захисником деяких із найвпливовіших у світі торговців кокаїном, у тому числі відомого мексиканського наркобарона Хоакіна „Ель Чапо” Гусмана, який нині відбуває довічне ув’язнення в США.
55-річний Ернандес два терміни був лідером центральноамериканської нації з населенням приблизно 10 мільйонів чоловік. Його заарештували в його будинку в Тегусігальпі, столиці Гондурасу, через три місяці після відставки в 2022 році. А згодом в квітні того ж року екстрадували до США.
Крім того, відомо, що його брата Хуана Антоніо „Тоні” Ернандеса, колишнього конгресмена від Гондурасу, у 2021 році також визнали винним за звинуваченнями в наркоторгівлі. За що Тоні отримав довічне ув’язнення. Таке рішення виніс Федеральний суд Манхеттена.

Амада Понсе, голова C-Libre, каже, що 23-річний Едвін Хосуе Андіно був застрелений з близької відстані серед білого дня в понеділок за місцевим часом. Рауль Моразан, директор місцевого телебачення LVT, заявив, що зловмисники напали на Андіно в будинку журналіста у Віллафранці, звідки його вивезли на вулицю разом із батьком, потім застрелили з близької відстані та вбили його батька. Вона зазначила, що Андіно, який також деякий час працював у LVT, раніше отримував кілька смертельних погроз.

У п’ятницю тисячі мігрантів із Гондурасу, які прямують до США, прорвали кордон Гватемали. Гватемальські сили безпеки мали сутички із сотнями членів каравану.
Влада розташованого біля кордону міста Ель-Флорідо спочатку заявляла, що у близько 5-тисячному натовпі багато жінок та дітей, тому вони не застосовували насильства щодо них. У суботу керівництво країни все ж вирішило не пускати натовп далі. Крім того, імміграційне бюро Гватемали видало попередження про те, що ще одна група з майже трьох тисяч людей також вирушила з Гондурасу.
Згідно з повідомленням, ця група вже перетнула кордон, і гватемальські сили безпеки зіткнулися із сотнями з них у прикордонному селі Вадо Хондо. Інший звіт свідчить, що лише невелика група людей перетнула кордон, близько тисячі людей було депортовано назад через кордон, багатьох також затримано. Повідомляється, що ті, хто пройшов, направляються до Мексики. Однак Мексика також не планує їх приймати, оскільки міграційна угода зі США все ще діє. Караван, швидше за все, продовжуватиме зменшуватися. До речі, Мексика не проти регульованої імміграції, проти лише несанкціонованої. Міністерство закордонних справ Мексики закликало місцеву владу зупинити натовп, зокрема, для запобігання поширенню Covid-19.
Міністерство високо оцінило заходи гватемальської поліції, водночас закликало Гондурас не випускати своїх мігрантів.
Це перший караван мігрантів із Центральної Америки, який вирушив до Сполучених Штатів цього року, імовірно, вони сподіваються на більш лояльние ставлення до питання міграції нового уряду США. Джо Байден, інавгурація котрого відбудеться в середу, пообіцяв, вступивши на посаду, негайно врегулювати ситуацію з мігрантами, надавши громадянство 11 мільйонам іноземців, які зараз незаконно проживають нині у США.
Pueblo Sin Fronteras, організація, яка фінансується мільярдером Джорджем Соросом, котра організовує каравани мігрантів, закликала майбутню адміністрацію Байдена виконати свої обіцянки у цьому питанні та пповпливати на Мексику й держави Центральної Америки, щоб вони проводили міграційну політику, яка поважає і підтримує права людини на вільне пересування.

Гватемала та Гондурас разом із Сальвадором розташовані у так званому північному трикутнику Центральної Америки. Регіон вважається одним із найбільш постраждалих у світі. Ситуація ще більше погіршується епідемією коронавірусу та спустошенням ураганів у листопаді минулого року. За даними міжнародних організацій, щорічно в середньому щонайменше півмільйона людей із трьох країн нелегально мігрують до США.
