Палата представників США слідом за сенатом ухвалила законопроєкт із санкціями проти китайських високопосадовців, які порушують права та свободи уйгурського населення.
Тепер документ мають передати на підпис президенту.
«Закон про політику щодо прав людини уйгурів 2020» був внесений 14 травня сенатором Марко Рубіо й того ж дня ухвалений верхньою палатою Конгресу.
«Цей законопроєкт запроваджує санкції проти іноземних фізичних та юридичних осіб, відповідальних за порушення прав людини в китайському автономному регіоні Сіньцзян-Уйгур, і вимагає звітування з цього питання», – зазначається в тексті документа.
Він, зокрема, містить вимогу щодо інформування Конгресу про порушення прав людини в Сіньцзяні; зусилля щодо захисту американських громадян та резидентів, у тому числі етнічних уйгурів, від переслідування китайським урядом; придбання і розвиток владою Китаю технологій масового стеження в Сіньцзяні.
Голосування відбулося того ж дня, коли держсекретар Помпео заявив про підтримку Гонконгу, а також те, що цей регіон більше не має автономного статусу в Китаї.
Це може суттєво загострити й без того напружені відносини між КНР і Сполученими Штатами.
Майже 10-мільйонна мусульманська уйгурська громада проживає в Синьцзян-Уйгурському автономному районі Китайської Народної Республіки. Згідно з доповіддю ООН за 2018 рік, мільйон громадян уйгурської національності на той час уже утримувались у таборах, існування яких підтвердив витік документів. Один зі звітів вказує, що влада Китаю змушувала близько 80 000 представників мусульманської етнічної меншини уйгурів працювати на китайських фабриках, які виробляють продукцію для найбільших світових брендів.
Уряд США заборонив 28 китайських компаній та інших організацій минулого жовтня через те, що вони причетні до репресій мусульманської уйгурської меншини.
Міністерство торгівлі США в жовтні минулого року оголосило про введення санкцій проти 28 компаній, пов’язаних із Пекіном, які причетні до переслідування уйгурів на території КНР.
