У середу, 16 лютого, в індійському штаті Уттар-Прадеш 13 гостей весільної церемонії провалилися в колодязь та загинули. Усі жертви трагедії – жінки та діти, в урочистий момент вони сиділи на плиті, що закривала шахту.
Про це повідомили у ВВС. Плита провалилася під вагою гостей якраз у момент, коли нареченим за індійською традицією наносили мазь із куркуми на обличчя як символ добробуту.
На крики збіглися чоловіки, які намагалися допомогти жертвам. Рятувальникам вдалося витягти з колодязя двох людей, решта 11 загинули, розбившись об кам’яне дно шахти.
Пізніше лікарі констатували смерть і двох постраждалих. Жодні реанімаційні заходи не змогли врятувати людей.
Прем’єр-міністр Нарендра Моді назвав ці смерті „несамовитими”, а також закликав владу штату сприяти та фінансово допомогти сім’ям загиблих.
