Tüntetéseket váltott ki az Egyesült Államokban, hogy egy texasi szövetségi bíróság országszerte korlátozni akarta az egyik legelterjedtebb abortusztablettát.
Washingtonban az amerikai legfelsőbb bíróság épülete előtt tiltakoztak tömegesen. Los Angelesben és New Yorkban szintén utcára vonultak az abortuszpártiak.
A terhességmegszakítás törvényessége körüli politikai és bírósági küzdelem tavaly július óta lángolt fel újra Amerikában, amikor a konzervatív többségű Legfelsőbb Bíróság szövetségi szinten megsemmisítette az abortuszhoz való alkotmányos jogot, és az egyes államokra bízta a döntést.
Floridában csütörtökön Ron DeSantis kormányzó aláírta a terhesség-megszakítás lehetőségét leszűkítő törvényt. A jogszabály a terhesség hatodik hetét követően megtiltja az abortuszt. A szigorítás ugyanakkor csak azután léphet életbe, hogy Florida állam legfelsőbb bírósága döntést hoz a jelenlegi, 15 hét utáni tilalmat tartalmazó jogszabály törvényességi vizsgálatában.

New Yorkban több ezer tüntető a manhattani Washington Square-ről a szövetségi bírósághoz, majd Brooklynba vonult. Eközben a közösségi oldalakon a felhasználók fotókat és videókat tettek közzé hasonló bostoni, philadelphiai, Los Angeles-i és Seattle-i eseményekről.
A legfelsőbb bíróság abortuszról szóló döntése miatti „düh éjszakájára” szóló felhívások pénteken kezdtek el terjedni a közösségi médiában. A jelentősebb abortuszpárti csoportok és szervezetek elutasították az ilyen felhívásokat, hangsúlyozva a tiltakozások békésségének fenntartását.
Pénteken az Egyesült Államok Legfelsőbb Bírósága hatályon kívül helyezte azt a csaknem ötvenéves döntést, amely szerint a szövetségi kormány garantálta az abortusz jogát. Ez a döntés azt jelenti, hogy az erre vonatkozó normákat mostantól az egyes amerikai tagállamok szintjén kell kidolgozni.
