Letartóztattak egy román turistát kedden az athéni Akropolisznál, miután márványdarabokat próbált ellopni az ókori görög műemlékről.
A 36 éves férfit azután fogták el, hogy egy másik turista észrevette, amint gyanúsan ráteszi a kezét az Akropoliszra vezető kapu maradványaira.
Amikor a rendőrök kérdőre vonták, a turista azt állította, hogy nem tudta, hogy a kődarabok elvétele illegális, és hozzátette, hogy már úgyis letörték az építményt.
A feltételezett tolvaj ellen lopás miatt emeltek vádat, és valószínűleg a görög régiségtörvény alapján fogják felelősségre vonni, amely kimondja, hogy minden ókori kulturális tárgy és tulajdon az állam tulajdona.
Az Akropolisznál történt incidens korántsem az első eset volt, nyáron számos helyen rongáltak meg turisták műemlékeket. Néhány héttel ezelőtt egy turista felmászott Olaszországban a firenzei Neptun-kútra, és letört egy darabot a XVI. századi szoborról.
Júniusban pedig egy turista azzal indította a nyári szezont, hogy saját és barátnője nevét a római Colosseum falába véste, míg egy másik turista a Trevi-kútból akarta feltölteni a kulacsát.
