Letartóztatták a Wall Street Journal riporterét Oroszországban. Evan Gershkovich akár 20 év börtönt is kaphat, mivel azzal gyanúsítják, hogy minősített információkat gyűjtött.
Evan Gerskovicsot az urali régióban található Jekatyerinburgban vették őrizetbe. Az orosz Szövetségi Biztonsági Szolgálat (FSZB) csütörtöki közlése szerint elfogásakor tetten érték, miközben állítólag titkos információkhoz próbáltak hozzájutni.
Államtitkoknak számító információk gyűjtésével gyanúsítják
Az FSZB közleménye szerint a riporter „minősített információkat gyűjtött az orosz hadiipari komplexum egyik vállalatának tevékenységéről”.
Akár 20 év börtönt is kaphat, ha kémkedés vádjában bűnösnek mondják ki a riportert, aki ellen még nem indult meg az eljárás, és egyelőre nem közölték, hogy az mikor kezdődik.
A hidegháború óta Evan Gershkovich az első amerikai újságíró, akit kémkedés vádjával őrizetbe vettek Oroszországban. Elfogása idejére Moszkva és Washington viszonya évtizedekben mérhető mélypontra került az Ukrajna elleni orosz háború miatt.
Moszkva állítja, hogy a riporter amerikai parancsra akart információkat gyűjteni orosz hadiipari államtitkokról, a szóban forgó vállalat tevékenysége ugyanis annak számít.
Akkreditált tudósítóként Oroszország a szakterülete
Az újságíró legutóbb az orosz gazdaság lassulásáról írt, összevetve a nyugati szankciókkal, amik azóta sújtják Oroszországot, hogy 2022 februárjában megtámadta Ukrajnát.
Evan Gershkovich az amerikai lap moszkvai irodájának akkreditált tudósítójaként gyakran foglalkozik Oroszországgal és Ukrajnával.
