 Raed Arafat katasztrófavédelmi államtitkár szerint vélhetően egy gázkazán robbant fel az irodák környékén egy barkácsáruházban pénteken, 13 sérültet kórházba szállítottak. A sérültek többsége az áruház alkalmazottai közül került ki. Az áruházban tartózkodók zöme, 110 ember segítség nélkül ki tudott menekülni.
  
 
 A robbanás következtében keletkezett tüzet eloltották, a tűzoltók a romos épületben folytatják az esetleg bennrekedt emberek keresését.
 Az államtitkár elmondta: feladatuk meglehetősen veszélyes, mert nem tudni, mennyire gyengült meg az épület szerkezete. Az áruház nem dőlt össze, de a robbanás számos szerkezeti elemét leszakította, megrongálta.
  
 
 A kórházi ellátásra szoruló emberek törést, zúzódásokat és különböző fokú égési sérüléseket szenvedtek, de valamennyien eszméletüknél voltak.
 A súlyosabb állapotban lévő sérültekért Jászvásárból és Bukarestből is helikoptert indítottak, hogy a jobban felszerelt sürgősségi kórházakba szállítsák őket.
