A hétfő éjjeli robbanásban Viktor Fiszenko, az orosz egészségügyi miniszter első helyettese szerint 13 gyerek sérült meg, tíz ember állapota súlyos. Fiszenko a történtek miatt Dagesztánba repült.
A lángok 600 négyzetméteren terjedtek el, a tűz elfojtása három és fél órájába telt több tucat embernek. A tűz hírügynökségi jelentések szerint a szomszédos járműszerelő műhelyben keletkezett, és onnan terjedt át a benzinkútra.
A töltőállomás nyolc üzemanyagtartályából kettő felrobbant. A helyszínről, egyebek között a közeli Globusz bevásárlóközpontból evakuálták az embereket.
Szergej Melikov, az Oroszországi Föderációhoz tartozó Dagesztán Köztársaság vezetője kijelentette, hogy a robbanás a benzinkúttal szemben történt, annak „okát és természetét” tisztázzák. A Nyomozó Bizottság (SZK) a biztonsági előírások több ember halálát okozó megszegése címén indított büntetőeljárását.
