A rendőrség vizsgálatot indított, hogy megállapítsa, mi okozta a tüzet. Grosseto szerint elképzelhető, hogy a nagy szárazság miatt magától kapott lángra a növényzet.
Frassilongo környékén 90 tűzoltó, két helikopter és két repülő küzd egy hetven hektárra kiterjedő erdőtűzzel. Toszkánában, Szicíliában és Szardínián is pusztítanak a lángok.
Eközben a Público című portugál napilap arról tájékoztatott, hogy lezuhant egy egymotoros, kétéltű tűzoltó repülőgép Portugália északkeleti részén, és a pilóta meghalt a balesetben. A repülőgép a Torre de Moncorvo térségében pusztító erdőtűz oltásában vett részt. Jelenleg 13 nagyobb és többtucat kisebb tűz pusztít a népszerű nyaralóhelyen – közölte a polgárvédelem.
