Hírügynökségek jelentése szerint kedden a nyugat-afrikai Bissau-Guinea fővárosában, Bissauban az elnöki palota térségében heves lövöldözést lehetett hallani.
A Radio France International francia rádió és a Reuters brit hírügynökség helyszínen lévő tudósítói szerint az elnöki palotában éppen Umaro Sissoco Embaló államfő részvételével a kormány ülésezett.
Az állami rádió szerint az elnöki palota károkat szenvedett és a „behatolók” kormányzati tisztségviselőket ejtettek túszul.
Három forrás, egy diplomáciai, egy rendőrségi és egy biztonsági illetékes azt állította, hogy Embaló és kormányának tagjai a hadsereg által körülvett épületben vannak, sorsukról azonban egyelőre nem tudni.
A tábornokból lett államfő 2020-ban aratott győzelmet az elnökválasztáson.
Alulmaradt kihívója, Domingos Simoes Pereira elutasította a voksolás eredményét, azt hangoztatva, hogy Embaló a hadsereg támogatásával ragadta meg a hatalmat.
Ezt a hivatalban lévő államfő cáfolta és cáfolja.
A Nyugat-afrikai Államok Gazdasági Szövetsége (ECOWAS), amely regionális szervezet, kedden közzétett közleményében hatalomátvételi kísérletként jellemezte a történteket.
Az ECOWAS komoly aggodalommal követi nyomon a Bissau-Guinea-i fejleményeket… ahol a hadsereg tüzet nyitott az elnöki palota körül – olvasható a regionális szervezet állásfoglalásában.
„Az ECOWAS elítéli ezt a puccskísérletet és felelősnek tartja a hadsereget Umaro Sissoco Embaló és kabinetje tagjainak biztonságáért” – tette hozzá.
António Guterres ENSZ-főtitkár szintén mély aggodalmának adott hangot a nyugat-afrikai ország fővárosában zajló heves összecsapások miatt és az erőszak azonnali megfékezését, illetve a demokratikus intézmények tiszteletben tartását követelte.

Katonai mozgosítás és bezárt iskolák
Egy biztonsági forrás szerint több embert is találat ért, egy másik illetékes pedig legalább két halottról számolt be. Nem tudni, hogy a halottak a támadók, vagy a biztonsági személyzet soraiból kerültek-e ki.
Bissau utcáin, helyszíni beszámolók szerint, számos katonát és katonai járművet látni. A katonák kormányzati épületek körül foglaltak el állásokat.
Az AFP francia hírügynökség szerint Bissauban bezártak az iskolák és a bankok, az üzletekben és a piacokon egyetlen lélek sem tartózkodik.
A katonák ellenőrzőpontot állítottak fel a város nemzetközi repülőterére vezető úton.
Az ország függetlenné válása óta nagy a belpolitikai bizonytalanság
Bissau-Guinea évtizedek óta belpolitikai bizonytalansággal küzd. Az egykori nyugat-afrikai portugál gyarmat 1974-es függetlenné válása óta négy sikeres puccs, valamint több puccskísérlet is történt.
A bissaui portugál nagykövetség egyébként Facebook-oldalán felszólította az országban tartózkodó portugál állampolgárokat, hogy lehetőleg maradjanak otthon és várjanak további információkra a kialakult helyzetet illetően.
A Reuters brit hírügynökség felidézte, hogy ez már az ötödik puccs egy éven belül Nyugat- és Közép-Afrika térségében a Maliban, Csádban, Guineában, Burkina Fasóban történt katonai hatalomátvételeket követően.
Az ECOWAS minden alkalommal szankciókkal sújtotta a puccsistákat.
