Kedden valaki kiürítette a Silk Road 1 milliárd dollárnyi bitcoint tartamazó tárcáját. Az internet azóta azon spekulált, hogy vajon ki juthatott hozzá a pénzhez.
Egy frissen közzétett bírósági dokumentum szerint az amerikai igazságügyi minisztérium volt a hunyó: az eljárást még 2015-ben indították meg a sötét webáruház ellen, de amúgy az FBI 2013 óta vizsgálja a felületet.
A pénz egyébként nem is a Silk Road üzemeltetőinél volt, 2012-ben egy hacker feltörte a tárcát és átvette fölötte az irányítást. Az amerikai hatóságok megtalálták a személyt és meggyőzték róla, hogy adja át az Egyesült Államok kormányának a pénzt.
A Silk Road 2011-ben indult, főleg kábítószert árultak. 2017-re sikerült teljesen megszüntetni a weboldalt.

Hackertámadás érte Joe Biden volt amerikai alelnöknek, a demokrata párt elnökjelölt-várományosának Twitter-fiókját szerdán egy kiterjedt Bitcoin-csalásnak tűnő manőver keretében, több más neves politikus, híresség és technológiai óriáscégek vezetőinek nagy látogatottságú Twitter-fiókjával egyetemben – jelentették amerikai médiumok.
A Joe Biden fiókján helyi idő szerint délután feltűnt üzenet arra biztatott mindenkit, hogy adományozzon Bitcoin kriptovalutát, és kétszer annyit kap vissza. A szöveget azonban rövid időn belül eltávolították.
„Visszaadok a közösségnek. Minden, az alábbi címre elküldött Bitcoint duplán küldök vissza! Ha 1000 dollárnyit küldesz, 2000-et küldök vissza. Ezt csak 30 percig teszem meg” – szólt a tweet.
A jelentések szerint hasonló üzenetek tűntek fel Barack Obama volt elnök, neves milliárdosok mint a Tesla alapító Elon Musk, a Microsoft társalapítója, Bill Gates, valamint az Uber, az Apple technológiai óriáscégek fiókfelületén is.
A Twitter mikroblog-szolgáltató nyilatkozatot adott ki, megerősítve, hogy tud az incidensről. „Vizsgáljuk a történteket, és lépéseket teszünk a helyreállításra. Hamarosan újabb értesítést küldünk mindenkinek” – közölte a társaság.
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez demokrata párti kongresszusi képviselő a Twitteren külön is figyelmeztette fiókjának követőit a hackertámadásra.
„Úgy tűnik, hogy éppen most nagy támadás zajlik a Twitter felhasználásával, amely nagy fiókokat vett célba. Kérem, legyenek éberek bármilyen Bitcoin-csalással kapcsolatban, és NE klikkeljenek rá semmilyen gyanús linkre!” – írta Ocasio Cortez, hozzátéve, hogy ez az ő fiókjában esetlegesen megjelenő üzenetekre is vonatkozik.
A támadás hatására négy százalékkal esett a Twitter részvényeinek tőzsdei értéke.
