A Központi Parancsnokság által kiadott közlemény szerint az amerikai hadsereg Deir-ez-Zór térségében hajtott végre csapásokat. Joe Buccino szóvivő azt is elárulta, hogy az iráni Forradalmi Gárdához köthető csoportok által használt létesítményeket céloztak, az utasítást a precíziós légicsapásokra Joe Biden amerikai elnök adta ki.
A közleményben leszögezték, az ilyen csapások célja, hogy megvédjék az amerikai erőket az olyan támadásoktól, mint amilyenek augusztus 15-én történtek a Green Village bázis ellen.
