Már több mint száz ENSZ-dolgozó halt meg munka közben a Gázai övezetben az izraeli–palesztin háború kitörése óta – közölte Philippe Lazzarini, az ENSZ palesztinokat segélyező szervezetének (UNRWA) vezetője pénteken az X-en.
„Le vagyok sújtva. Egy hónap alatt az UNRWA több mint száz kollégájának halálát erősítették meg. Szülők, tanárok, ápolók, orvosok, segítők. Az UNRWA gyászol, a palesztinok gyászolnak, az izraeliek gyászolnak” – mondta Lazzarini, aki ismételten humanitárius tűzszünetre szólított fel.
Margaret Harris, az Egészségügyi Világszervezet (WHO) szóvivője pedig pénteken bejelentette, hogy a Gázai övezet északi részében található Sifa kórház bombázás alatt áll, és az övezetben már 20 kórház vált teljesen működésképtelenné.
„Nem kaptunk még részletes tájékoztatást a helyzetről, de azt tudjuk, hogy a Sifa kórház bombázás alatt áll” – közölte Harris, hozzátéve hogy a helyszínen tartózkodó munkatársaik nagyfokú erőszakról számoltak be.
A palesztin egészségügyi minisztérium szóvivője is megerősítette, hogy a kórházat izraeli légitámadás érte. A Reuters hírügynökség pedig egy közösségi oldalakon megjelent videó hitelességét erősítette meg, amelyen a Sifa kórház területén több halott és sebesült, köztük számos gyermek is látható.
Az izraeli média pénteken számolt be arról, hogy az ország hadseregének különleges erői a Sifa kórház körül tevékenykednek és harcolnak a terroristákkal. Eközben tankok és a gyalogsági erők, valamint csapatszállító páncélosok közelítik meg a Sifát és más kórházakat a Gázaváros szívében zajló harcok előrehaladásával.
Az UNRWA közleménye szerint a háború kezdete óta 1,6 millió ember kényszerült elhagyni otthonát a Gázai övezetben. Az övezetben mintegy 2,3-2,4 millió ember él.
António Guterres ENSZ-főtitkár pedig hétfőn újságíróknak azt mondta, hogy a hadműveletek nyomán Gáza nemsokára gyerekek temetőjévé válik.
