Odesszában a hatóságok kiderítették, hogy az egyéves kisfiú, akit holtan találtak a fagyasztóban, korábban égési sérüléseket szenvedett, és orvosi segítségre lett volna szüksége.

A nyomozás szerint január környékén a kisfiú, aki anyja hanyagsága miatt több helyen is súlyos égési sérüléseket szenvedett, elvesztette az eszméletét és légzési nehézségei voltak. Az anya és az élettárs azonban nem kértek orvosi segítséget.
Mindez a gyermek halálához vezetett. Hogy eltüntessék a nyomokat, a férfi a gyerek holttestét a fagyasztóba tette.
