 Indiában a mucormycosisban (fekete gombában) szenvedő betegek száma 31 216 esetre nőtt, a halálos kimenetelű esetek száma – 2109, számolt be az NDTV tv-csatorna orvosi forrásokra hivatkozva.
 Május 26-án 11 717 mucormycosis esetet regisztráltak Indiában. A tévécsatorna beszélgetőpartnerei szerint a betegek számának növekedését a gombafertőzés elleni gyógyszerek hiánya okozza.
 A legtöbb beteget Maharashtra (7057 eset és 609 haláleset) és Gujarat államokban (5418 eset és 323 haláleset) regisztrálták.
 Szakértők szerint a fekete penészgombát gyakrabban azoknál a koronavírus fertőzéses betegeknél diagnosztizálták, akik az intenzív osztályon voltak és hosszú ideje szteroidokat vagy oxigéntámogatást kaptak.
 A betegség azokat a cukorbetegeket is érinti, akik hosszú ideig nagy dózisú szteroidokat kapnak. Május elején vált ismertté, hogy Indiában egy újabb betegség terjedése járvánnyá kezd alakulni.
