Augusztus 5-én este közúti közlekedési baleset történt a Beregszászi járási Felsőveresmart községben. Egy Mercedes Benz sofőrje elütött két gyalogost ‒ egy 33 éves nőt egy 8 éves gyerekkel, akik az út szélén haladtak az autóval azonos irányba. Ezt követően a sofőr nekiütközött egy Volkswagen Golf típusú személygépkocsinak, amely az úttest jobb oldalán állt. Az autóban egy fiatal család ült: egy 21 éves sofőr, 20 éves felesége és 2 éves fiuk.
A baleset következtében mind az öt személy megsérült, valamennyiüket kórházba szállították. A 33 éves gyalogos nő és az autóban utazó 2 éves gyermek a kórházban belehalt sérüléseibe. A 8 éves gyalogos lányt és a Volkswagen Golf sofőrjét az intenzív osztályon, a 20 éves nőt a traumatológián kezelik.
A baleset helyszínén az Országos Rendőrkapitányság Kárpátalja Megyei Főosztályának nyomozói, a helyi rendőrkapitányság nyomozócsoportja és igazságügyi szakértők dolgoztak. A rendfenntartók megállapították, hogy a Mercedes Benz személygépkocsi 24 éves sofőrje ittas (0,83 ezrelék) volt és kábítószer hatása alatt vezetett járművet.
Utóbbit a rendőrök őrizetbe vették és ideiglenes fogdába helyezték. Az ügyben büntetőeljárás indult a közúti közlekedés biztonsága vagy a közlekedés szabályainak megsértése miatt ittas állapotban járművet vezető személy által, amely több ember halálát okozta. A fogvatartottat 7-től 12 évig terjedő szabadságvesztés fenyegeti a jogosítvány 7-től 10 évig terjedő időtartamra történő megvonásával. Az ügyben tart a bíróság előtti nyomozás, az objektív körülmények megállapításához számos szakértői vizsgálat is lefolytatásra kerül.
