Tragédiába torkollt egy luxushajó körútja Ausztráliában: a Coral Adventurer egyik utasát, a 80 éves Suzanne Rees-t hátrahagyták a Nagy-korallzátony Lizard-szigetén, miután rosszul érezte magát és nem vett részt a túrán. A nőt csak másnap találták meg holtan – írja a The Guardian.
A Coral Expeditions 60 napos körútjának részeként október 25-én érkezett a hajó a szigetre. Rees lánya, Katherine elmondta, hogy édesanyja rosszul lett, ezért a társaság engedélyével egyedül indult vissza a hajóra – ám soha nem tért oda vissza.
Miután a hajó elhagyta a szigetet, csak öt órával később, az eltűnés észlelése után értesítették a hatóságokat. A szárazföldi és tengeri kutatás másnap tragikus eredménnyel zárult: Rees holttestét megtalálták.
A Coral Expeditions vezérigazgatója, Mark Fifield szombati nyilatkozatában közölte: a történtek után nem tudják biztosítani a vállalat által ígért „magas színvonalú élményt”, ezért a hajóút hátralévő részét lemondták.
A Coral Adventurer most visszatér Cairnsbe. Az Ausztrál Tengerészeti Biztonsági Hatóság – AMSA – vizsgálatot indított annak kiderítésére, miért nem vették észre a beszálláskor, hogy Rees hiányzik. A hatóság megtiltotta a hajónak, hogy új utasokat vegyen fel, és a kikötés után az AMSA munkatársai fogadják majd.
Fifield részvétét fejezte ki a családnak, és közölte, hogy az utasok teljes visszatérítést kapnak, a hazajutásukat pedig charterjáratokkal segítik.

A 15 éves fiú egy ötnapos hajóúton vett részt a családjával a Karib-térségnél és a Bahama-szigeteknél. Még szerda este a tengerbe esett, a rendőrség vizsgálja az eset körülményeit.
Este fél nyolc körül riasztották az utasokat, miszerint egy ember a vízbe esett. Megkérték őket, hogy zárják be az erkélyre nyíló ajtóikat. Mint mondták, a rendőrség majd másnap száll fel a fedélzetre Miamiban kivizsgálni az esetet.
Az egyik utas videófelvételt csinált a vészjelzésről, aminek hatására az utasok mind a hajó oldalába szaladtak.
Biztos egy kis időbe telik, de nem tudom, mit fognak csinálni… Hogy kiküldenek-e egy mentőcsónakot a keresésre… Csak érzem, hogy még mindig haladunk, és ez rossz érzés. Még mindig azt érezni, hogy előre haladunk – mondta a felvételt csináló nő a videóban.
Az MSC Cruises vállalat egy közleményben azt írta, hogy egy fiatal fiú, aki a családjával utazott hajón, valószínűleg öngyilkos lett.
További információkat nem közöltek a családra való tekintettel, és mély együttérzésüket fejezték ki – írja a Fox News. A miami rendőrség csütörtök reggel 7 órakor megkezdte a nyomozást, még vizsgálják az esetet, nem gyanítanak gyilkosságot a háttérben.
