Meghalt az Action News helikopterének pilótája és a fedélzeten tartózkodó fotós is, amikor kedd este lezuhant a philadelphiai tévétársaság járműve New Jersey-ben.
A Chopper 6 nevű helikopter a Hammonton közelében lévő Wharton állami erdő területén zuhant le, nem sokkal este 8 óra után – írja a New York Post.
A hétüléses helikopter fedélzetén csak ketten tartózkodtak, egy Jersey Shore-i forgatásról tértek haza.
A New Jersey rendőrség nem sokkal éjfél után találta meg a roncsot a 122 880 hektáros erdő mélyén, a Mullica River Road mellett. A helyszínt különösen nehéz volt megközelíteni az erdőben való elhelyezkedése miatt.
A tragédia helyszínéről készült felvételeken jól látható, ahogyan a földbe csapódott roncsból az ég felé törtek a lángok.
„Mindkét kollégánknak hosszú múltja volt a csatornánál, és évek óta az Action News csapatának részeként dolgoznak. A 6-os helikopter és azok, akik azt vezetik, szerves szerepet játszanak a hírgyűjtő műveleteinkben, hiszen ők olyan területekre jutnak el, amelyeket földi úton nehéz elérni” – nyilatkozta a csatorna a baleset után.
A helikopter egy 2013-as amerikai Eurocopter AS-350A-STAR volt, melyet a tragédia estéjén utoljára 20:03-kor láttak a levegőben. Az amerikai légügyi és közlekedésbiztonsági hivatal vizsgálja a baleset okát.
