19 hónap alatt kilencedik alkalommal tört ki az izlandi óriás vulkán. A hatóságok riasztást adtak a közeli lakosok, turistákat evakuáltak, és közelről figyelik a kitörés alakulását.
Ma hajnalban ismét kitört a Sundhnúkur vulkán az izlandi Reykjanes-félszigeten, nem messze Grindavík halászvárosától. Ez már a kilencedik kitörése 2023 decembere óta.
A kitörést egy intenzív földrengéssorozat előzte meg, amely éjfél előtt kezdődött, és a földmozgások többsége 4–6 km mélyen történt, ami arra utalt, hogy a magma még nem közelítette meg közvetlenül a felszínt.
A hatóságok még a kitörés előtt megkezdték a lakosság evakuálását. A híres Blue Lagoon szállodát, a hozzá tartozó kempinget és Grindavík nagy részét is kiürítették. A rendőrség házról házra járva ellenőrzi, maradtak-e még bent lakók, ahogy az áprilisi kitöréskor, úgy most is vannak, akik nem hajlandók elhagyni otthonaikat.
A katasztrófavédelem a legmagasabb riasztási szintre emelte a készültséget. A vulkánkráter a Litla-Skógfell csúcs délkeleti részén nyílt meg, a repedés hossza 700–1000 méter között van, és a lávafolyam főként délkelet felé halad. A szakértők szerint ez egy kisebb erejű kitörésről van szó, ami jelenleg nem fenyeget közvetlenül sem lakott területet, sem létfontosságú infrastruktúrát.
A lakosság figyelmét felhívták a gázzal szennyezett levegő veszélyeire. A Vogar és Reykjanesbær térségében élőknek azt javasolták, hogy zárják be az ablakokat, és figyeljék az Izlandi Meteorológiai Szolgálat levegőminőségi előrejelzéseit.

Szerdán késő este ismét kitört egy vulkán Izlandon, a főváros közelében. Ez már a tizedik alkalom három éven belül, és a hetedik tavaly december óta.
A Reykjavíktól délnyugatra, a Reykjanes-félszigeten fekvő tűzhányó röviddel éjfél előtt lépett ismét működésbe, és azóta is izzó láva ömlik belőle egy körülbelül három kilométer hosszú hasadékból. Az izlandi meteorológiai szolgálat szerint a szeptember 6-án befejeződött legutóbbinál és a májusinál jóval gyengébb kitörés valószínűleg már tetőzött, nem várható a növekedése.
A hatóságok szerint az újabb kitörés nem befolyásolja a légi közlekedést, de a Reykjanes-félsziget egyes részein, így a legközelebbi városban, a jórészt már lakatlan Grindavíkban gázok sűrűsödhetnek össze. Elővigyázatosságból kiköltöztették a lakókat 50 lakóházból és a vendégeket a híres Kék Laguna üdülőkomplexumból.
A korábbi természeti látványosságoktól eltérően a mostani kitörést nem előzte meg napokig vagy hetekig tartó földrengés, mindössze háromnegyed órával a kitörés előtt észleltek kisebb rengéssorozatot és földalatti magmamozgást.
A korábbi sorozatos kitörések jelentős anyagi károkat okoztak a Reykjavíktól 50 kilométerre délnyugatra fekvő, hivatalosan 3800 lelkes Grindavíkban, ahonnét a biztonságáért aggódó lakosok egy jelentős része elköltözött.

Egy turista életét vesztette, és két társa után még mindig kutatnak az izlandi Breidamerkurjökull gleccser jégbarlangjában, miután annak egy része vasárnap délután beomlott. A helyi hatóságok hétfői közlése szerint a baleset idején a turistacsoport néhány tagja még bent tartózkodott a népszerű idegenforgalmi látványosságnak számító barlangban.
A közösségi médiában posztolt rendőrségi közlemény szerint a mentőket vasárnap délután három órakor riasztották az Izland délkeleti részén fekvő helyszínre. A jégbarlangnál egy 25 tagú nemzetközi turistacsoport tett látogatást, amikor négyükre ráomlott a barlang egy része.
Két turista súlyosan megsérült, egyikük a baleset helyszínén belehalt sérüléseibe, a másikat stabil állapotban helikopterrel szállították kórházba a hatóságok közlése szerint.
A két eltűnt turistát az estébe nyúlóan nagy erőkkel keresték, de a sötétség leszállta után a helyszín veszélyessége miatt reggelig be kellett szüntetni a kutatást a rendőrség tájékoztatása szerint.
Az izlandi RUV műsorszolgáltató arról számolt be, hogy nehézséget okozott a megfelelő felszerelések és a többtucatnyi mentőmunkás, köztük barlangi mentők helyszínre szállítása. A beomlott jégrétegen a mentők kézi erővel, láncfűrésszel próbáltak áttörni.
A Visir izlandi hírportál értesülése szerint a csoport egy túravezetővel szervezett kiránduláson vett részt a jégbarlangnál, és a csoport tagjainak többsége már elhagyta a barlangot, amikor a baleset történt.

Kitört egy vulkán szerda délután Izland délnyugati részén, a szeizmikus aktivitást miatt kiürítették a közeli Grindavík kikötővárost, valamint – még a kitörés előtt – a turisták körében népszerű Kék Lagúna szabadtéri geotermikus fürdőt is, ahol délelőtt még nyolcszázan tartózkodtak.
Az ország meteorológiai intézete szerint a láva mintegy 50 méteres magasságba lövell a magasba egy körülbelül egy kilométer hosszúságú hasadékból.
A kitörést megelőzően több rengést észleltek a mintegy 3800 lakosú Grindavíktól északra. A települést márciusban, illetve novemberben már kiürítették vulkánkitörések miatt.
A vulkán a Reykjanes-félszigeten, az ország egyik legsűrűbben lakott vidékén tört ki.

December óta ez a negyedik vulkánkitörés a térségben.
Az izlandi meteorológiai intézet tájékoztatása szerint az ország délnyugati részén, a Reykjanes-félszigeten lévő Stora Skogfell és Hagafell között vulkánkitörés kezdődött. A térségben készült videófeltételeken izzó lávát és füstfelhőket lehetett látni.
Az első, videófelvételek alapján történt becslések szerint a kitörés a három korábbi kitörés közül a legerőteljesebb lehet a magma kiáramlását tekintve – közölte az intézet, hangsúlyozva, hogy mindez a kitörési tevékenység első óráján alapul.
Az izlandi polgári védelem bejelentette, hogy helikoptert küld az új hasadék pontos helyének meghatározására. A kitörés miatt a rendőrség szükségállapotot hirdetett – közölték a hatóságok.
A meteorológiai intézet beszámolója szerint a lávafolyam az előző, február 8-i kitörés helyszínének közelében tört ki. A helyi média azt írta, hogy nem sokkal 22 óra után a lávafolyam csúcsa mintegy 200 méterre volt a Grindavik kis kikötőváros keleti részét védő gátaktól, és óránként körülbelül egy kilométeres sebességgel haladt.

Az izlandi közszolgálati televízió, a RÚV szombaton közölte, hogy Izland evakuálta világhírű Kék Lagúna geotermikus gyógyfürdőt a közeli szeizmikus aktivitás miatt, mely egy „küszöbön álló” vulkánkitörésre utal. Izland délnyugati részén, a Reykjanes-félszigeten egy hónapon belül másodjára történik vulkánkitörés. A láva elérte Grindavik halászfalut, házak gyulladtak ki a településen. A hírt a BBC és a The Guardian közölte.
Novemberben a hatóságok 4000 embert evakuáltak Grindavikból a kitörés veszélye miatt. Ezt követően mintegy száz lakos tért vissza, és most ismét evakuálni kellett őket.
Az elmúlt hetekben föld- és kőgátakat építettek a vulkán köré, hogy eltereljék a magmát a faluból. Az Izlandi Meteorológiai Hatóság jelentése szerint azonban ezek nem segítettek – a láva áttörte az akadályt.
Izland elnöke elmondta, hogy az emberek nincsenek életveszélyben, de az infrastruktúra jelentős kárt szenvedhet.
A kitörés egy sor földrengés után következett be a régióban. A vasárnapi kitörés az ötödik kitörés a félszigeten 2021 óta.
