Meghalt egy nő Belgiumban, miután rádőlt egy húsz méter magas fenyőfa egy karácsonyi vásáron – közölte a Dernieres Heures című belga napilap internetes oldalán pénteken.
A beszámoló szerint Flandriában, Belgium északi, flamand nyelvű tartományában, a Brüsszeltől 50 kilométernyire fekvő Oudenaarde város karácsonyi vásárán felállított, mintegy öttonnás fenyőfa a 6-os erősségű széllökések következtében dőlt fel.
A balesetben három ember sérült meg, mindhármukat kórháza szállították. Egyiküket, egy középkorú nőt újra kellett éleszteni, azonban néhány óra múlva belehalt sérüléseibe.
A nő személyazonosságáról további információt nem közöltek, a többi érintettel kapcsolatban még nem tettek hivatalos bejelentést.
Marnic De Meulemeester közölte: a fenyő a felállítását követően egyszer már kimozdult a helyéből, a műszaki szolgálatnak kellett visszaállítania és megerősítenie. A vásár területét azonnal lezárták, még kérdéses, hogy újranyit-e a karácsonyi időszak hátralévő részében. Az ügyben vizsgálat indult, de minden valószínűséggel a feldíszített fa rosszul volt rögzítve – mondta a polgármester, majd megerősítette: az elmúlt napok heves esőzései és a rendkívüli erejű széllökések dönthették fel ismételten a fenyőt. A rendőrség gondatlanság miatt nyomozást indított.
Több német városban is klímaaktivisták rongáltak meg karácsonyfákat: narancssárga festékkel fújtak le több nyilvánosan elhelyezett karácsonyfát. A történteket levideózták, és közzé is tették, valamint nyilvánosan polgári engedetlenségre szólították fel követőiket.

A karácsonyfát minden évben felállítják a téren a környékbeli gyerekek örömére, idén azonban valaki vagy valakik ezt nem nézték jó szemmel. A Valeurs Actuelles hírportál felhívja a figyelmet arra, hogy a fa Lyon egy „sérülékeny” kerületében található.
Az eset kapcsán sokan megjegyezték, köztük a kerület polgármestere is, hogy a fa felgyújtása gyerekes, rosszindulatú és teljesen haszontalan volt, de többen arra is felhívták a figyelmet, hogy a környéken amúgy is sok a bűncselekmény. Volt, aki úgy fogalmazott, „iszlamizált, nem asszimilált” a környék, írja a Valeurs Actuelles.
A hatóságok egyelőre azt vizsgálják, hogy valóban gyújtogatás történt-e, vagy egyszerű rövidzárlat okozta a tüzet, ez utóbbi azonban nem valószínű a sajtóértesülések szerint.
Az üggyel kapcsolatban volt, aki a Twitteren a bordeaux-i polgármester döntésére emlékeztetett, aki idén környezetvédelmi okokra hivatkozva nem akart a városban karácsonyfát állítani. „A módszerek nem azonosak, de a harc hasonló”, fogalmazott bejegyzésében.
