Scott Ehler beszámolója szerint a repülőgép a St. Pete-Clearwater nemzetközi repülőtérről szállt fel, és a kifutópályától öt kilométerre északra tűnt el a radarról.
A Szövetségi Légügyi Hatóság (FAA) közlése szerint a Beechcraft Bonanza V35 típusú, egymotoros könnyű repülőgép pilótája csütörtök este 7 órakor jelezte az irányítóközpont felé a motor meghibásodását.
A kisrepülő ezután veszíteni kezdett a repülési magasságból, majd Clearwaternél a mozgatható házakból álló Bayside Waters lakótelepre zuhant. A zuhanás következtében egy mobilotthon teljesen megsemmisült, további három kigyulladt, de a tűzoltók hamar eloltották a tüzet – számolt be róla Ehlers.
„A gép maradványait egy darabban találták meg” – fűzte hozzá Ehlers, aki a baleset áldozatainak pontos számát nem tudta közölni, miután az FAA-nak nem állt rendelkezésére pontos adat arra vonatkozóan, hányan tartózkodtak a balesetkor a kisrepülőgép fedélzetén.

A Fox News hírtelevízió helyszíni beszámolója szerint a kisgép helyi idő szerint kora este három emberrel a fedélzetén leszállni készült a Washington fővárostól mintegy 30 kilométerre fekvő Gaithersburg repülőterén, amikor egyelőre tisztázatlan okokból a villanyvezetéknek ütközött.
A három utas sértetlenül megúszta az ütközést, ugyanakkor még órákkal a baleset után is a gépben tartózkodtak mintegy 30 méteres magasságban, a feszültség alatt lévő vezeték közelében.

Repülőgépet lopott el egy férfi, majd azzal fenyegetőzött, hogy egy bevásárlóközpontba vezeti az Egyesült Államok Mississippi államában, emiatt az üzletközpontot és mellette található benzinkutat kiürítették, a környék lakosságát figyelmeztették.
Helyszíni sajtótudósítások szerint a többmotoros repülő a kora reggeli órákban szállt fel Tupelo városának közelében, és helyi idő szerint késő délelőtt még mindig a levegőben körözött. A hatóságok egy ideig rádiókapcsolatban voltak a géppel, majd ez megszakadt.
Tupelo rendőrsége közölte, hogy teljes készültségben vannak, és tekintetbe véve a repülőgép teljesítményét az elkötött repülő által fenyegetett térség jelentős. A hatóságok abban bíznak, hogy a gépet sikerül biztonságban landolásra késztetni, legkésőbb, amikor elfogy az üzemanyaga.
Tudósítások szerint a kisrepülőgép folyamatosan Tupelo város környékének légterében körözött alig 300 méteres magasságban, részben lakónegyedek és részben ipari létesítmények, részben mezőgazdasági területek, részben egy nemzeti park fölött. A veszélyeztetett létesítmények között van – az elsőként fenyegetett Walmart bevásárlóközpont mellett – egy Toyota autógyár is.
A férfi indítékai nem világosak, rendőrségi források szerint a helyi repülőtér alkalmazottja.

Vérfagyasztó videók keringenek neten. A felvételeken az látható, hogy egy kisrepülőgép miképp zuhant le a Florida állambeli Orlandóban egy forgalmas utcára – írja a New York Post.
A videókat készítő Raiah Collins a Storyfulnak elmondta, hogy akkor vette a kezébe a telefonját, és videózta le a történteket, mikor az autójából észrevette, hogy a repülő „szokatlanul alacsonyan száll” – idézte a portál.
Az egyik kilenc másodperces felvételen az látható, hogy az egymotoros, Cessna 182 miképp csap le a forgalmas Egyetemi sugárútra.
Senki nem szenvedett el komoly sérüléseket
A New York Post beszámolójából az is kiderül, hogy csodával határos módon a pilóta csak könnyebb sérüléseket szenvedett, sőt még a közúton közlekedők is sértetlenül megúszták a „kalandot”.
A hírek szerint a balesetet egy mechanikai hiba okozta, ami miatt a pilóta kényszerleszállásra kényszerült.
