Az autót a kora reggeli órákban állították a kormányzati épület elé, a sofőr pedig elmenekült a helyszínről – tette hozzá Monreal a még mindig karácsonyi díszben pompázó Zacatecas állam azonos nevű székhelyének főterén készített felvételen.
Bár Monreal nem említett számot, a helyi sajtó hat holttestről számolt be.
A bűntett hátterét homály fedi, ugyanakkor a közép-mexikói államban a Sinaloa és a Jalisco Új Generáció kábítószer-kartell háborúzik egymással.
Zacatecason keresztül szállítják ugyanis az Egyesült Államokba csempészendő kábítószer zömét Mexikón belül.
Mexikó mintegy 15 éve szenved a kartellek és a biztonsági erők erőszakjától.
Mióta az akkori elnök, Felipe Calderón 2006-ban katonai eszközökkel próbált véget vetni a kábítószeres bűnözésnek, az erőszakhullám nagyjából 350 ezer áldozatot követelt, további 96 ezer embert pedig eltűntként tartanak nyilván.
Mára Mexikóban számos, nagy befolyással rendelkező kartell, illetve bűnszervezet aktív. Ezek gyakran korrupt politikusokkal és biztonságiakkal állnak kapcsolatban.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador jelenlegi mexikói elnök csütörtökön ismertette az előzetes bűnügyi statisztikát, miszerint tavaly a gyilkosságok száma négy százalékkal, 33 410-re csökkent 2020-hoz képest.
Ez nagyjából 92 gyilkosságnak felel meg naponta. A legtöbb gyilkosság az országban büntetlen marad.
