A South China Morning Post szerint négy ember – köztük egy tűzoltó – meghalt, és a tűz legalább „három blokkra terjedt át a lakótelepen”.
Több ember rekedt a lángokban álló toronyházakban, és további két személy súlyos égési sérülésekkel kritikus állapotban van – közölte az RTHK műsorszolgáltató a rendőrségre hivatkozva.

A lángok időközben átterjedtek a szomszédos toronyházakra is. Az oltás közben több tűzoltó is megsérült. A tűz, amely helyi idő szerint délután 2:51-kor keletkezett (magyar idő szerint 07:51), átterjedt a komplexum külső részén felállított bambuszállványzatra – állítják a jelentések.
A tűzesetet legsúlyosabb, 5-ös fokozatba sorolták. A hongkongi média hivatalosan meg nem erősített beszámolója szerint az egyik halálos áldozat egy tűzoltó volt – közölte az MTI.
