Hat ember életét vesztette, és több mint 2600-an váltak hajléktalanná, amikor szerda reggel a Gamane ciklon északi részén le sújtott – közölte az országos katasztrófa-elhárítási hivatal (BNGRC) az esti órákban.
További ezer ember háza a múlt héten dőlt romba a heves esőzés miatt – közölte a BNGRC, mely szerint még emelkedhetnek a számok.
A Gamane-t az esti órákban erős trópusi viharrá minősítették át, és a meteorológiai előrejelzések szerint várhatóan péntek délután hagyja el a csendes-óceáni szigetet.
A ciklon sajátossága, hogy a pályáját az utolsó pillanatban tudták megállapítani. Tizenkét órával az érkezése előtt az előrejelzések úgy vélték, hogy csak súrolja a szigetet.
Elack Andriakaja, a BNRGC főigazgatója elmondta, hogy ez a fajta ciklon igen ritka. Szinte álló helyzetben halad előre, és ahol tartózkodik, minden infrastruktúrát lerombol, aminek súlyos következményei vannak a lakosság szempontjából, és nagyszabású árvizek kísérik.

A madagaszkári nemzeti stadionban rendezték meg az Indiai-óceáni Szigetjátékok megnyitó ünnepségét, amikor a helyszínre bejutni próbáló tömegben 12-en elhunytak, már nem lehetett megmenteni őket.
A Reuters azt írja, hogy 80-an megsérültek, amiről a miniszterelnök számolt be pénteken. Egyelőre nem tudni, mi idézte elő a tragikus helyzetet, de 2019-ben 15 ember vesztette életét egy hasonló incidensben a Mahamasina stadionban.
Christian Ntsay miniszterelnök szerint a sérültek közül 11-en válságos állapotban vannak, így még lehetnek újabb áldozatok. Az Indiai-óceáni Szigetjátékokat a Nemzetközi Olimpiai Bizottság (NOB) hozta létre a 70-es évek végén, amin Mauritius, a Seychelle-szigetek, a Comore-szigetek, Madagaszkár, Mayotte, Réunion és a Maldív-szigetek sportolói vesznek részt rajta.

Huszonketten meghaltak egy hajótörésben Madagaszkár partjainál, az emberek a francia fennhatóság alá tartozó Mayotte szigetére akartak eljutni – közölte vasárnap Madagaszkár kikötői hatósága.
A bárka, amelyen 47-en utaztak, szombaton szenvedett balesetet a Madagaszkár északi részén található Ankazomborona térségében. A tájékoztatás szerint a fedélzeten lévők közül 23 túlélő volt, 22 holttestet találtak, két másik embert pedig eltűntként tartanak számon.

Az évnek ebben a szakában egymás után alakulnak ki trópusi viharok az India-óceánon, a szigetország partjainak közelében. Az idei első trópusi vihar január 19-én érte el a szigetet.
A Madagaszkáron pusztító Cheneso és a nyomában járó heves esőzés eddig 16 ember halálát okozta a katasztrófavédelmi hivatal csütörtök este kiadott közleménye szerint.
Mint írták: a vihar vasárnap visszafordult az óceán felé, de a sziget nyugati részén fekvő Morondavát még napokig nem hagyta el.
A szélsőséges időjárás miatt több mint 60 ezer embernek kellett elhagynia lakóhelyét, 13 ezer épület és mintegy száz tanterem is megrongálódott az Európai Bizottság polgári védelemmel és humanitárius segítségnyújtással foglalkozó csoportjának adatai szerint.

Madagaszkáron hétfőn emberrablási ügy miatt feldühödött lakosokra nyitottak tüzet a csendőrök, minek következtében tizennégyen meghaltak és huszonnyolcan megsebesültek – jelentettél helyi vezetők és orvosok.
„A csendőrök a tömegre lőttek” – jelentette Jean Brunelle Razafintsiandraofa, az Ikongo körzet parlamenti képviselője.
A helyi kórház főorvososa, Tango Oscar Toky tájékoztatása szerint kilenc ember a helyszínen életét vesztette, a harminchárom kórházba szállított sebesült közül pedig öten haltak bele sebeikbe.
Ikongóban a múlt héten eltűnt egy albínó gyermek, a hatóságok emberrablásra gyanakodnak. Madagaszkáron a bőr színét adó melanin hiánya okozta albinizmusban szenvedők rendszeresen vannak kitéve erőszaknak. Bő tucatnyi emberrablást, támadást és gyilkosságot jeleztek az ENSZ szerint az elmúlt két évben.
A csendőrök négy gyanúsítottat őrizetbe vettek, a lakosok viszont saját maguk akartak igazságot szolgáltatni. A parlamenti képviselő elmondása szerint a lakosok a reggeli órákban a csendőrség laktanyájához vonultak, és kérték a négy gyanúsított kiadását. Egy csendőrségi vezető szerint legalább ötszázan gyűltek össze az épület előtt, sokan késsekkel, bozótvágókkal felfegyverkezve.

A helyenként 235 kilométer óránkénti heves széllökések és esőzések kísérte Batsirai még szombat este érte el Madagaszkár keleti partjait Mananjary régiójában. Csaknem 48 ezer ember kényszerült az ítéletidő miatt elmenekülni otthonából.
„Mintha lebombáztak volna bennünket. Nosy Varika városának csaknem 95 százaléka tönkrement. A kőházak tetejét elsodorta a szélvihar, a fából emelt kunyhók tönkrementek” – idézte a brit Reuters hírügynökség Willy Raharijaonát, a madagaszkári szenátus alelnökének tanácsadóját.

Országos szinten Madagaszkár 28 millió lakosából 4 és fél millióan vannak veszélyben, közel 600 ezer embert érint közvetlenül, és több mint 150 ezer embert kell biztonságos helyre költöztetni.
