„Meglehetősen egyértelmű”, hogy Oroszország áll a mögött a kiterjedt és minden korábbinál súlyosabb kibertámadás mögött, amelynek révén hekkereknek sikerült behatolniuk az Egyesült Államok kormányzati intézményeinek és kulcsfontosságú infrastrukturális létesítményeinek számítógépes hálózatába – jelentette ki szombaton egy interjúban Mike Pompeo amerikai külügyminiszter, a legmagasabb rangú amerikai tisztségviselő, aki eddig az ügyben nyilvánosan megvádolta Oroszországot.
Világos, hogy Oroszország áll az amerikai kormányzati rendszerek elleni hackertámadások mögött – fogalmazott Pompeo. Az akciót amerikai tisztviselők „súlyos kockázatnak” nevezték az USA-ra nézve.
Igen jelentősnek nevezte a támadást most a külügyminiszter is, és elismerte, még mindig vizsgálják, mi is történt valójában. A kibertámadások során igen kifinomult eszközökkel hatoltak be kormányzati és magánrendszerekbe. Így például nukleáris kutatólaboratóriumokba, a Pentagonba, a pénzügyi és a kereskedelmi minisztériumokba.
Donald Trump elnök még nem reagált a támadásra, amely márciusban kezdődött, és csak hetekkel ezelőtt észlelte a magánszektor. Pompeo a pénteki kijelentéséig szintén igyekezett elbagatellizálni az orosz hackertámadást.
