Két kisgyerek meghalt, hatan pedig megsérültek, amikor busz hajtott egy napközis óvoda épületébe a kanadai Montreal elővárosában. A rendőrség szerint a buszvezető szándékosan hajthatott az épületbe, de az indítékot még nem tudják. Szemtanúk szerint a sofőr az ütközés után kiszállt, levetkőzött és ordítozni kezdett, vagyis láthatóan zavart állapotban volt.
A szülők éppen óvodába vitték a gyerekeiket, amikor egy autóbusz egyenesen belehajtott az épületbe. „A párom hívott reggel, hogy a szeme láttára egy iskolabusz rohant a napközi épületébe” – mondta egy szülő.
A baleset következtében két kisgyerek a helyszínen életét vesztette. Hat másik pedig életveszélyes sérüléseket szenvedett. A jármű kihajtott a buszfordulóból és az óvoda parkolóján keresztül belehajtott az épületbe. A baleset után a sofőr láthatóan zavart állapotban volt: ordítva szállt ki a buszból és ledobálta magáról a ruháit.
Végül három szülőnek sikerült a földre tepernie a sofőrt.
Az 51 éves férfit a kiérkező rendőrök őrizetbe vették. Gondatlan vezetés és emberölés vádjával indítanak eljárást ellene. Laval polgármestere a helyszínen azt mondta, hogy a gyanúsított büntetlen előéletű, az indítéka egyelőre ismeretlen.

A kanadai parlament alsóháza egy perc néma csenddel emlékezett a tragédia áldozataira. Justin Trudeau kanadai miniszterelnök részvétét fejezte ki a családoknak, köszönetet mondott a hatóságoknak és a mentőegységeknek. A rendőrség további részleteket egyelőre nem árult el az esetről, de átfogó nyomozást ígért. Azt is vizsgálják, hogy a gyanúsított szándékosan vagy véletlenül okozta-e a balesetet, illetve, hogy van-e bármilyen köze az esetnek az intézményhez.
