A demonstrálók ismét országuk 1991 és 1995 között hivatalos zászlajával, és sok más mellett az elnök távozását és új választások kiírását követelő transzparensekkel vonultak az utcákon. Kora délutánig 50–100 embert vettek őrizetbe. 13 ezer embert tartóztattak le a tüntetések augusztusi kezdete óta.
Szvjatlana Cihanouszkaja ellenzéki vezető vasárnapi üzenetében arra kérte a tüntetőket, hogy békésen, de kitartóan demonstráljanak, egyben jelezte, addig nem hagynak fel a tiltakozással, amíg nem szabadul ki minden politikai fogoly és nem tartanak tisztességes választásokat az országban.

A rendőrség közlése szerint könnygázt és fénygránátot is bevetettek a tömegoszlatáshoz. A rohamrendőrség embereket emelt ki a tömegből és kisteherautókba tuszkolta őket – mondta el egy szemtanú a Reuters brit hírügynökségnek. Az Interfax orosz hírügynökség szerint legalább tíz embert őrizetbe vettek.
Fehéroroszországban az augusztus 9-i elnökválasztás óta tüntetnek, amióta Aljakszandr Lukasenkát a központi választási bizottság a szavazatok 80,1 százalékával hirdette ki győztesnek. Az ellenzék szerint a választást elcsalták. Lukasenka tagadja a választási csalást, és azt állítja, hogy a tiltakozásokat külföldről támogatják.

Mivel a biztonsági erők több metróállomást is lezártak, ezért az emberek gyalogosan közelítették meg a békés tüntetés helyszínét. A rendőrség hangosbemondókkal figyelmeztette az embereket, hogy ne vegyenek részt a hatóságilag nem engedélyezett megmozduláson. A tüntetést követően egy szabadságmenetet is akarnak tartani egy új Belaruszért.
Múlt vasárnap a tüntetések minden korábbinál nagyobb számban zajlottak: különböző becslések háromszázezer és hatszázezer közé teszik a tüntetők számát. A mai tüntetésen ennél szerényebb a létszám, de így is jóval százezer fő felett van.
„A tömegrendezvények megtartása illegális, a résztvevőket felelősségre vonják” – közölte a belügyminisztérium. Ivan Kubrakov, a minszki rendőrség vezérőrnagya videóüzenetben provokációra figyelmeztetett, és felszólított mindenkit, hogy maradjon távol a Függetlenség terétől.
Lukasenka, aki ismételten az állítja, hogy külföldről próbálnak forradalmat szítani Belaruszban, azzal fenyegetőzött, hogy kemény kézzel fellép a nyugalom helyreállításáért. A védelmi minisztérium vasárnap közleményben tudatta, hogy mostantól a hadsereg látja el az emlékművek védelmét. A tárca leszögezte, hogy az emlékművek térségében történő rendbontások és zavargások esetén a tüntetők már nem a városi rendőrséggel, hanem a hadsereggel kerülnek szembe.
Az elnök élesen bírálta a tüntetők egyházi támogatását, és szankciókat helyezett kilátásba. – Felekezeteink álláspontja meglep – mondta Lukasenka szombaton. Az elnöki hivatal honlapján megjelent beszédében hangsúlyozta, hogy a papoknak nem szabadna az ellenzékiek nevében felszólalniuk. Lukasenka szerint a politikának semmi keresnivalója a templomokban. Különösen a katolikus egyház állt ki a választási csalás és a rendőrségi brutalitás ellen tiltakozók mellett. Mindemellett minden felekezet erőszakmentességet és országos párbeszédet sürgetett. A 9,5 millió fehérorosz többsége ortodox keresztény, csak mintegy 15 százalékuk katolikus.

Cihanouszkaja hangsúlyozta: nem várható, hogy egyhamar véget érjenek a tömegtüntetések. – Az emberek felocsúdtak, és nincsenek többé abban a helyzetben, hogy együtt éljenek egy kormányzattal, amelyet nem fogadnak el – mondta. Hozzáfűzte, hogy az emberek nem tudják megbocsátani a minszki vezetésnek az ország lakói elleni erőszakot.
Cihanouszkaja a vasárnap közzétett interjúban egyben kijelentette, hogy a belarusz nép jogaiért folytatott harc szimbólumává vált és „nemzeti vezetőként” határozná meg magát.
Az ellenzék szerint Lukasenka csalt a választáson, és így sikerült a hivatalos adatok szerint a voksok több mint nyolcvan százalékát megszereznie. Cihanouszkaja magát látja a vitatott elnökválasztás igazi győztesének, bár a hivatalos adatok szerint a szavazatok csupán 10,12 százalékát kapta. A szavazás után tömegtüntetések kezdődtek országszerte. Az első napokban több ezer demonstrálót vettek őrizetbe, halálos áldozatok is voltak. Tüntetőkön kívül a rendvédelmi szervek többtucatnyi tagja is megsérült.

Minszkben tüntető tömeg gyűlt össze, hogy biztosítsa támogatásáról a fehérorosz elnököt, s ezzel egy időben utcára vonultak az államfő távozását követelők is.
Fehéroroszországban egy hete tartottak elnökválasztást, amelyet a hivatalos eredmény szerint az addigi elnök, Olekszandr Lukasenko nyert, elsöprő fölénnyel. Az ellenzék viszont elcsalt választásról beszél, az ország legtöbb nagyvárosában hetedik napja folyamatosak az összecsapások a tiltakozók és a rendőrség között.
Az állami televízió épülete előtt ellenzéki demonstrálók gyűltek össze, és azt követelték, hogy a média hiteles tájékoztatást adjon a tüntetésekről, illetve azok erőszakkal történő leveréséről, a tiltakozókkal szemben alkalmazott megtorló intézkedésekről.
